The Patriotic Front (PF) General conference at the Mulungushi rock of authority has started off on a peaceful note this morning. Thousands of PF delegates have converged at the Mulungushi Rock of Authority in Kabwe to elect the party President.
The delegates gathered at the graduation square as early as 07:00 hours in readiness for the general conference which is expected to be opened by Acting President, Guy Scott.
The mood at the conference is peaceful and no act of violence has been reported.
Songs of solidarity for Defence and Justice Minister, Edgar Lungu, echoed around the square as cadres and party members danced and ran around.
Some Cabinet Ministers, deputy Ministers, MPs and members of the Central Committees, led by Nkandu Luo, could not resist and joined the jubilant cadres in songs and dances.
And Government has urged to remain peaceful as they elect their part President to contest the January 20, 2015 presidential by elections. Chief Government spokesperson, Joseph Katema, describes the 2014 PF conference as the most peaceful party conference in the history of Zambia. Dr Katema, who is also Information and Broadcasting Service Minister, commended the Zambia Police service for maintaining peace and order at the conference.
Meanwhile, PF National Chairperson, Inonge Wina, expressed surprise and concern over the delay to open the conference as delegates have been waiting for over five hours.
Ms Wina said there was no room for delay in electing the person to lead the party in the upcoming election so that the ruling party can kick start the campaigns.
She said it was unfortunate that the secretariat, which is in charge of accrediting delegates, has delayed in completing the exercise.
On rumours that the party conference had been postponed to Sunday to allow delegates to accredit, Ms Wina said the information had not been communicated.
She could neither confirm nor deny the sudden withdrawal of Commerce Minister, Miles Sampa, from the PF presidential race.
There is a rumour in the camp that Mr Sampa has withdrawn from the presidential race.
Meanwhile opposition ABZ president Frank Bwalya who too is at the Mulungushi Rock of Authority has also praised PF members for the peaceful manner they have conducted themselves while waiting for accreditation.
Father Bwalya, who has endorsed PF presidential hopeful Edgar Lungu, has told Qfm news by telephone that PF members have proved wrong sceptics who thought that the process of electing the ruling party’s President would be marred by violence and bloodshed.
Father Bwalya said that he is particularly hopeful that this orderliness will continue even after the PF president and subsequent presidential candidate for the 2015 presidential election has been elected.
Father Bwalya stated that his hope and confidence is based on among other things how PF members from various camps cheered him when arrived at the venue this morning.

I am at Mulungushi rock of authority and there is total madness.Up to now 17:42hrs voting has not stated and scott is still at the barracks.Lungu’s supporters are every were other delegates from ,Western,Northen,Southern,and north western have left the convection.My prayer is such kind of behavior will infiltrate into the national election.Zambians we have to stop this spirit of violence and confusion or Zambia will be on frames of fire.This the end of PF.
It is not that the ZWD was saying that Sata was dying but according to it he was a cat with nine lives having reported that he had died on a number of occasions after the PF/UPND alliance collapsed. It was caught flat footed when he actually died. When someone is sick there is always a possibility of recovery. He recovered when LPM evacuated him to RSA.

Ba Chisenga, I genuinely have no wild or bigotry inclination towards any party. However, as a Zambian I have genuine interest in the welfare of my country. I therefore have a duty as a Zambian to put in power leadership that will advance welfare of Zambian people. @ Katondo boys; my friend I can clearly see from your postings that you do not care about the welfare of our pipo. The fact of the matter is that Zambia has had no leadership for past 3 yrs & and u can not run an institution like RDA for 3 yrs with Board Chairman without any board members. There is no sane set-up that can run for 3 yrs on this arrangement. Wat sort of governance is this? Coincidentally the Auditor General Office has also gone mute on RDA audits for 3 yrs. This institution is very strategic and handles big value transactions. Something sinister has certainly been taking place in RDA in the last 3 yrs. Coming to pangas, we are seeing serious resurgence of use of pangas in Zambia. This simply shows that power is in wrong hands. In a way this is actually affecting tourism.
The will of the majority will always prevail in a democracy but they are not always right.You have to be blind not to see that Lungu will win today and will,in all probability,go on to win the presidency in January. I fear this will be another catastrophic lack of judgement by the same electorate who voted for Sata in the past.Like Sata, Edgar Lungu is unsuited to lead a nation. I always said Sata had no qualities to be head of state and I think l have been totally vindicated. He has left the nation in a constitutional crisis with potential dire consequences which any leader worth his salt could easily have avoided.Lungu too just doesn’t inspire me.He is dull and uninteresting, a man with no vision or conviction.What exactly would make Lungu stand out in a crowd?
