TOURISM and Arts minister Jean Kapata has charged that Chongwe Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo was never a founder member of the Patriotic Front (PF) and therefore should be the last person to demand that the ruling party’s president Edgar Lungu should resign from the party.
Ms Kapata said it was shocking that Ms Masebo “who has been jumping from one political party to another” could ask Mr. Lungu to leave the ruling party when he was among the founding members.
Ms Kapata said unlike Ms Masebo, Mr Lungu had only belonged to one political party in his life and had been a loyal and faithful member of the PF from 2001.
She recalled that Ms Masebo was originally a member of the MMD together with her colleague, former Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba before defecting to the Zambia Republican Party (ZRP) where they attempted to overthrow the party president Benjamin Yorum Mwila.
Ms Kapata said after failing to take over ZRP, Ms Masebo returned to MMD during the reign of Levy Mwanawasa and that she (Masebo) caused a lot of confusion in the former ruling party when Rupiah Banda became president.
She recalled that just before the 2011 general elections, Ms Masebo “jumped” to PF because she knew that the party’s chances of forming government had become bright.
“How can Ms Msebo who has been jumping from one political party to another ask PF president Edgar Lungu to leave the party?
Mr Lungu, unlike Madam Masebo has only been a member of one political party in his life and that is the PF. Masebo must be ashamed of herself but I am not surprised because that is what desperation can do to selfish individuals,” Ms Kapata said.

Political prostitutes have the potential to divide our country. Zambia needs to come up with robust laws to stop this rot otherwise we risk segmenting our country.
