Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) President Nevers Mumba has vowed not to give the party’s presidency to anyone.
Dr Mumba said according to the MMD constitution there was no vacancy for the position of party president and that he was the legitimate candidate to stand as president in the forth coming presidential by elections.
Addressing some party members in Livingstone on Monday during a party meeting at their secretariat, Dr Mumba said he was tired of being hit left, right and centre by people who were opposed to his leadership both in the MMD and the Patriotic Front (PF).
Dr Mumba said former president Rupiah Banda needed to rest and enjoy his pension because he had already served his time.
He said it was un fortunate that people like Mr Banda wanted to come back and be in the lime light of the party when things were now okay for the MMD, and were not there to save it when it was almost allegedly crashed by the PF government through deregistration.
Dr Mumba said he received the heaviest punches from the late Michael Sata and the PF and wondered where people like Mr Banda were at that time.
“I received the heaviest punches from the late president Michael Sata and the PF. Mr Sata had some of the heaviest punches for MMD, where were people like Mr Banda? I saved the MMD from total collapse when they wanted to deregister it so am not going to get punches from anyone again, not this time,” Dr Mumba said.
He said Mr Sata’s punches were so heavy that no one wanted to receive them and now that he was no more, they thought that could get back.
Dr Mumba said it was time to go forward with the party and said time had come for him to also hit back to those who were opposed to his leadership.
He said even Jesus in the bible times whipped those who were rebellious to his teachings and said as a preacher, he would also use the same principle.
In doing so Dr Mumba suspended Southern Province MMD Chairperson Oliver Pelete with immediate effect whom he said did not want to work with him and replaced him with his secretary Kebby Mushabati to act as provincial chairperson.
“I will do this in every province where I find confusion. Am not here to warm the sit for anyone as MMD president. Am not a baby sitter for anyone, am the president and I shall act as empowered by our party constitution,”Dr Mumba said.
Dr Mumba also lifted the suspension of Namatama ward councilor Felix Lyandisha who was suspended by the party three months ago.
And Speaking at the same meeting, Dr Peter Machungwa said MMD recognized only one president who was Dr Mumba.
Dr Machungwa said it was time for Dr Mumba to take up the party and country’s leadership in order for the party to survive and have peace as well as dignity.
He was accompanied to Livingstone by Dr Peter Machungwa, Ms Elizabeth Chitika and the MMD’s vice national treasurer Winnie Zaloumis among others.

If you would like to know whether Edgar is presidential material, ask yourself this question: if PF loses in Jan 2015, is EL going to manage to keep PF moving forward? Your answer answers the question on whether EL is presidential material.
I propose that MMD should change its name, the entire entourage except Machungwa are all Light Blue Members and are not Legitimate members. Even RB and his group. The real TRUE BLUE are just enjoying watching the vultures share a dead cow.

RB is not after MMD Presidency, but the MMD constitution does not anywhere state that the MMD President shall be the Presidential candidate. Chiluba was MMD President when Mwanawasa was candidate. You may be the first option, but not automatically.
Nevers, what you stand for is correct and is based on principles. I do not know what RB wnats. The advice by his son is correct and Andrew has the interest of the father at heart.
Dr Nevers Mumba should’ve the clear front runner in this by-election or at least a tight race at this stage.
But the big ugly head of Rupiah Banda reappeared from nowhere to reveal its selfish and greedy motives to defy democratic norms that MMD Greats of class 1991 put together. Frederick J.Chiluba, Arthur Wina and others who rejected the Kaunda’s tyrannical UNIP ways must be furiously turning in graves.

There must be something seriously wrong with Nevers. Noone in MMD wants to take the MMD presidency from him. Nevers is still the MMD president but not the presidential candidate for the MMD for the 2015 January 20th election. Fullstop. MMD has done this before when Chiluba was MMD president but Mwanawasa stood as the presidential candidate for the party. VJ explained how this works in MMD. When the party is in between conventions, the NEC chooses the candidate for the presidential elections. As in this case. The MMD constitution is the most mature of all constitutions because it was written by people who went to school. Not ceremonial Doctors. Nevers as usual is misleading himself. I am surprised MMD even choose him to lead them. He is DULL!
