Newly appointed Minister of Information and Broadcasting Service Chishimba Kambwili has promised to ensure that the Access to Information Bill is tabled before Parliament once the house reconvenes later this month.

And Mr. Kambwili has warned the online publication, Zambian Watchdog that he will not hesitate to shut it down if the publication continues what he has termed as malicious reporting.

Speaking to journalists shortly after being sworn in at State House today, Mr. Kambwili says his first priority in office is to ensure that Journalists do the right thing.

Mr. Kambwili says journalists should also be taken care of in terms of working conditions.

He has also promised to ensure that the media operates independently.

Mr. Kambwili says he will not hesitate to deal with some online media platforms in the habit of writing malicious stories about the party in government.

He adds that he will engage all the necessary institutions both local and abroad to try and shut down online media institutions that are not meeting journalistic standards.

Mr. Kambwili has also encouraged the media in the country to be agents of peace and desist from promoting tribalism.

    • Kambwili iwe, you can’t shut the ZWD mwaiche iwe. ZWD is bigger than PF I tell you. You’ll be shocked to learn that your wife works for the ZWD. Just a word of caution to you bwana.

    • Yeah and you worship Zambian Watchdog? A website that promotes tribalism? Zambian Watchdog is fast becoming like Kachepa.com because it has lost all credibility after failing to state correct election results. Look, ZWD is UPND, plain and simple. And PF is indeed larger than UPND. Get your facts right!

    • Actually ZWD is now recruiting new reports in Edgar’s government including State House correspondents.

    • Kambwili is back!
PF will again squnderlize tax payers monies because Zambian Watchdog group is invisible. The likes of Hon Kambwili are scared of their “ghosts in a shell” as ZWD reports without fear or favor of anyone.
      Today I pause the question Shaka Zulu asked;
“How do you trap a monkey”?
A cheese eating monkey convert will succumb to the rot, but not for long. The atmosphere was conducive to the best when Kambwili was bootlegging Lungu for a job.
Aisha! Cwale esi mutu ukanyanda. PF kimasholi fella.
The best of Kambwili will be his time of reckoning, when PF one day shall be indeed in the opposition if not sent into oblivion. Hon Kambwili will remember the ZWD.
Play with fire Kambwili, the dog watchers will finish corrupt politicians.

    • Kambiwili’s appointment as Minister of Information and Broadcasting is, so far, the only move I disapprove of HE. Edgar Lungu’s actions since coming to power. Then again, he is in the hot seat and I am not so we shall see how that unfolds.
I have misforgivings for Kambwili after he harassed staff at ZNBC last year. We want a Govt that will promote “freedom of press and media” but I cannot see ZNBC anywhere near being “free” under Kambwili. Biased coverage will be the order of the day and that will certain rob Lungu of some popularity among MISA members.

  1. So early Kambwili you have started shooting your self in the feet.

Lungu shunted there because he knows thats the best ministry to finish you completely.

If you continue issuing useless statements to intimidate the online media, we shall bring you down before July.

That ministry is reserved for Dora. Lungu wants you to be hated so he can have an excuse to fire you.

Its good Lungu has listened to retain some ministers and begin to replace then one by one as time goes by.

So Dora is getting her seat back very soon in exchange for the seat MMD to PF in c/b.

  2. Yes….Yes…Yes Imbwili is back, to do kolopa.com…as usual vocal, straight and hardworking……and suits every environment uko ba reporter..imbwili iza buluma

  3. May be the biggest mistake Edgar Lungu has made so far.

    Good information ministers are:
    1. Sober in their approach and don’t wear hearts on their sleeves.
2.Try to be as balanced as possible on issues of public interest.
    3. See things beyond cadreism and never get involved in war of words on every issue flying around.
    4. Know when to keep their mouths shut, listen to others and reflect before making a statement.
    5. Respect boundaries of other ministries.

Kambwili is none of that. In fact he’s the antithesis of sobriety and calmness. Remember, he’s was the 2nd or 3rd most hated PF member of all time only to Kabimba.

  4. There’s need for a very strong man-minister in Lungu’s first cabinet, and who else but Kambwili to occupy that role! To be able to deal with the obnoxious incessant verbal diarrhoea nonsense of GBM, and such-like!

  5. There’s need for a very strong man-minister in Lungu’s first cabinet, and who else but Kambwili to occupy that role! To be able to deal with the obnoxious and incessant verbal diarrhoea nonsense of GBM, and such-like!

  6. Kabwili you can not close down the Zambian watchdog and who are you going to work with abroad were they respect media freedom. Just wait ZWD will give you a good fight. Do not talk of things you can not do.

  7. Oh yes!!! Considering all these vultures looking to devule PF, and 2016 approaching real quickly, dissemination and countering malicious information is of utmost importance. Kambwili is the perfect bulldog to counter their attacks. Excellent placement ECL.

  8. His appointments have diversity. Some are loudmouths like kambwili but are hard working and so forth. He has appointed them for their strengths and not weaknesses.

I am happy with the appointments.

    • It’s too early only time will be the best judge whether EL has chosen well or not. At the moment we can only speculate (usually for the ldiots) or we can extrapolate ( usually for the intellects ).

  9. be careful honorobale with your enemies within PF, dont forget u might have been put there to expose you. soon or later u will look like you are the worst minister ever in pf. be very cautious, this is politics, but i like the FOI bill promise. i repeat be careful with pipo who advised lungu for u to be in the MIOB, note that you are a famous man and surely u r quite unpopular; even among your own. my advise, TREAD CAREFULLY

  10. Traits of a dictator. This is a guy who wanted to run for presidency. Eish, he is a very dangerous man to humanity. I bet as a president he would have shut down ECZ too and cancel all democratic elections. Anyway more careless statements and actions to come from the frog in the next remaining 18 months. I guess Edgar is doing a DONT KUBEBA on this guy, let him blunder to justify his dismissal. As a Chief government spokesman I fear for the worst from the mouth of this guy. This is a very sensitive ministry.

  11. this man must be stopped, he is a bully and thinks he can bully citizens. let it be known that people are not stupid and his role is to serve the people of Zambia and not to dictate to them. we cannot sit back and watch this man talk to people as though everyone is mindless.

LT please remind the man that there is such a thing as freedom of speech and that not only that which is acceptable to kambwili will be published – he needs to grow up

  12. KAMBWILI YOU ARE A USELESS OVERZEALOUS BACKWARD ENTITY WHO STILL LIVES IN THE 19thCENTRY AND IN A DICTATORSHIP WOLRD. KAMBWILI YOU SHOULD BE INFORMED THAT YOU ARE SERVING AS AN INFORMATION MINISTER IN A DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY, AND IT IS THE DEMOCRATIC RULES OF THE LAND TO GOVERN ON HOW YOU SHOULD CONDUCT YOURSELF AS MINISTER OF INFORMATION. YOU ARE NOT JUST GOING TO WAKE UP FROM YOUR WEIRD DREAMS AND STATE CHANGING THE RULES OF THE GAME IN THE MINISTRY AND IN THE COUNTRY. STOP LIVING IN THE PAST. THIS IS 21st CENTURY!
