The United Party for National Development (UPND) has expelled three of its Members of Parliament serving as deputy Ministers in the PF Government for campaigning against party President Hakainde Hichilema in the 20th January presidential election.

The three Members of Parliament are Greyford Monde for Itezhi-tezhi,Richwell Siamunene for Sinazongwe and Sinjembela’s Poniso Njeulu.

The UPND has since written to the Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini requesting him to declare the three seats vacant following the expulsion from the party of the trio effective 21st May,2013.

In letters to the three Members of Parliament dated 5th March 2015, UPND Secretary General Winstone Chibwe said by campaigning for the Patriotic Front in the run-up to the presidential election, the three brought the name of the party and the party President into disrepute.

Mr Chibwe further stated that Mr Monde and Mr Siamunene went on to use demeaning and insulting language against the UPND President, and the presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema.

He said that this is in breach of Article 9 of the party constitution and that the two went further to demean the UPND President and the party by publicly issuing statements that the UPND is a tribal party during their campaigns for the PF.

  1. No more bye-elections until next year. So the seats will remain vacant and the MPs will continue to serve as deputy ministers.

Its becoming expensive to hold these elections

    • @Tutu
Zichoka mtumba mwa anyoko lini ndalama za by-election. Well done UPND. These ldiots can’t eat with both hands while sitting on the fence. It’s either they are with UPND or with PF, chapwa!

    • This is a reaction from UPND for the expulsion of GBM and Masebo. If the PF pushes the speaker for the expulsion of GBM and Masebo from parliament, the speaker will have no choice but to also expel siamunene and the friends since the cases leveled against them are the same. In the end non of the MPs will be expelled . Good move Upnd.

    • Quote: “The UPND has since written to the Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini requesting him to declare the three seats vacant following the expulsion from the party of the trio effective 21st May,2013.”

Is this about the purported indiscipline by these three MPs in the runup to the 2015 by-elections or something else? If so, how come the effective date of the expulsions being asked for is from 2013. Am I the only one confused here?

And if I recall correctly, don’t these, or at least some, have injunctions against expulsion from UPND pending before the courts already? I may be wrong, but I remember such happenings a few years ago. Anyway, let us have all the parties expel “bad eggs” at once so we can get on with the business of building our country?

    • The PF has expelled Masebo and GBM. Therefore Chiwamila PF not the other parties whose members supported EL not their presidents. Be serious ba PF. The law of natural justice demands that you must be fair.

    • Some one the MP where sown in as far back as Sata’s time only to be punished now… Let’s now get down to by elections, litmus paper test of 2016.

    • They have an Article 9 that they have decided to use. It is high time we learn, in Zambia, that when we write something down as a rule, it must be expeditiously and meticulously followed.

  2. I’m really at a lose trying to figure out what advice HH is getting and the true interests of the advisers are. How do you take such action when you have been at the forefront of “housing” MP’s from other parties during the just ended campaigns? On top of that you have been condemning PF for its stance on GBM and Masebo.
Every sane person can only read into your actions as a party willing to force by elections without a care. Let them serve for what’s left of the term but don’t accept there nominations next year and politicize that position for your own benefit somewhat UPND behave as if they are in Govt

    • I wish you could analyse what has happened to MMD MPs that supported UNPD. I wish you could analyse what happened to PF MPS that supported UPND! Then your analysis could be sound. Recall, anyone who does not play according to the club rules does not deserve to be in that club. I blame all the mentally retarded politicians who tink that what is good for the goose is bad for the gander when the contrary is true. Fire them all

    • It all started with PF. GBM and Masebo expelled because of supporting the opposition. Is it not the same Principle that must be applied on Njeulu, Siamunene and Monde? Be serious with your approach to applying natural justice.

    • People should realise that when you are the main opposition party you should strategise to gain an advantage over the ruling Govt and therefore garnish more voters from those with reason. If PF sack MP’s and force by elections so close to the end of term, you don’t go and do the same especially if you were parading opposition MP’s yourself. Instead you, take advantage and “sing” to the nation that “us, as a responsible party, will avoid wasteful spending on by elections in a broke country but expect these erring MP’s to find an alternative party come next elections. We hope Govt can use the money we have served them on medicines for those in need and not fill their pockets. We shall be watching you. That’s what I’d advise HH.

  3. This is getting interesting, it’s to the advantage of any that manages to win these by erections,in the preparation road to 2016 general erections.dispite the cost it’s necessary to have a clear picture..

    • @ Chinyama, do you know what editing is? Spellings seem to be a challenge with you. I wish you were near, my son could have helped you. Look your mistakes (general erections, Some one the MP where sown). Your comments also lack substance and you always contradict yourself. Reason before you comment an please don’t expose your ignorance in public.

  4. Copy cuts no wonder this rich fool will never win any election how many years has it taken you to make this decision

    • UPND did not want to cause any bye election by expelling Siamunene and Monde. Does PF care about bye elections? NO, NO. Now that UPND has reacted just like what PF did ,you have noticed that bye elections are expensive. Ba PF, bikeni bola panshi…..your friends can easily read through you!

  5. For a change a few hens have been thrown into a fox den. It will be free for all all the way… the fastest, most cunning fox will take most of the chickens…

    • @Rural dweller
They automatically lose their ministerial positions because they need to first be MPs. If Edgar still has not used up the max number of nominees (which i doubt) he can nominate, then reappoint them.

  6. why do you want to blame upnd for this action pf is also wrong they also used mps from different parties . anyway , let it be, now upnd can count on kasama central chongwe itt sinazongwe and shangombo . good move ba pf before 2016. and good luck upnd to have additional seats.

  7. The equation is simple. UPND is answering back PF for expelling those that supported UPND and so is UPND. No party should be more than the other and no party should always get all. I feel sorry for these guys coz the political carry has ended unless they contest in Luapula, Lusaka, Northern, and Eastern provinces.

  8. WHAT ABOUTNSOLWEZ MP? HAS HAS BECOME A CIRCUS DUE TO THESE HUNGRY MPS.

ANYWAY HH IN HIS USUAL UNDERFIVE WAY TOOK SO LONG.

NEVERS JUST SAID ‘CHIBE ‘ AND NOW THEY ARE CRAWLING BACK. PEOPLE RIDICULED HIM BUT HIS FORMULA HAS WORKED. IT WON’T BE LONG BEFORE MMD GETS BACK TO NORMAL, IF ONLY ALABI CAN REMAIN OUT OF MMD.
