Simukonda: We are sorry

Share

Zambia Under-23 coach Fighton Simukonda has lamented his teams’ failure to qualify to the 2015 All-Africa Games.

Zambia were beaten 2-1 at home in Lusaka by Nigeria to bow out by the same aggregate scoreline after a scoreless result in the first leg on March 22 in Abuja.

“I don’t like to make excuses when we lose but we just lost. We created a lot of chances unfortunately we couldn’t convert those chances,” Simukonda said.

“It is bad because everyone in the country is talking about the falling standards of football in the country so we thought this was our chance to start winning.

“It is very painful the way we lost.”

Simukonda now turns his attention to the Senegal 2015 CAF Under-23 Cup qualifiers next month when they await the winner of the preliminary round tie between Kenya and Botswana.

  1. The real test is always West or North African Teams. Kenya or Botswana are ok but do not measure up. The day we shall re-start eliminating North or West African Teams from competitions then we shall consider ourselves to have arrived on the big football scene once more.

  2. In my opinion, Ronald Kampamba should not have started in that game especially that he has been inactive ever since he went to Egypt. Having said that, we need to be patient with the under-23 team. With time and necessary support, the boys are capable of bringing glory to this country. Let us remember that Nigeria are also coming from a bad patch. The super eagles did not even qualify to the last AFCON.

  3. @Magic Wand Nigeria did not qualify for last AFCON but they keep on selling players to Europe. Countries like Belgium, Austria , Romania, Israel which can give them break into big leagues like the English and Italian. The problem we have we always want to start big. For example when Mbesuma left Chiefs he went straight to English league. That was like taking a Grade seven to Grade ten to write exam.

  4. @green crocodile . You are righ man , just like HH he needs to be a counsellor first then MP then President NOT STRAIGHT FROM drinking mabisi u want the highest position in the land.
