Power chop down Forest to close gap with Zanaco

Share

Second placed Power Dynamos are now two points behind leaders Zanaco after a 1-0 home win over Forest Rangers.

Martin Phiri scored the games lone goal in the 38th minute in a tightly contested match at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

However, controversy surrounded Phiri’s goal after the ball seemingly did not cross the line after it hit the beam.

Referee Odario Simwiinde adjudged that the entire ball crossed the line and let the goal stand.

After the final whistle, Forest players closed-in on Simwiinde who left the pitch under heavy police guard following the decision.

Power move to 27 points behind Zanaco on 29 points after they were held to a 3-3 away draw by Green Eagles in Choma.

Eagles took the lead in the 4th minute through Adamson Mulao but Moses Phiri equalised ten minutes later.

Roderick Kabwe handed Zanaco a 2-1 halftime lead in the 24th minute before Aubrey Funga added the visitors third in the 71st minute.

However, Mulao completed his brace in the 81st minute before Mwila Phiri restored parity in the 85th minute to see Eagles and Zanaco share the spoils.

And at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, FAZ Super Division defending champions Zesco United stayed a close third after a 4-0 home win over promoted Lusaka Dynamos.

Kondwani Mtonga, Winston Kalengo, Clatus Chama and Mwape Mwelwa were on target in the 21st,28th, 54th and 65th minutes respectively to keep Zesco three points behind Zanaco.

  1. Which is which. Some reports say Green Eagles and Zanaco drew 3 all and others are saying zanaco won 3-2. Please clarify.

  2. Perhaps surprisingly, that may not be the only move between the two London rivals. According to The Express, Arsenal are also interested in Charly Musonda Jr., an 18-year-old attacking midfielder from Belgium who joined the Blues in 2012. Valued at about £6 million, Musonda may also be a loan target with the option to buy, according to Daily Mirror. Manchester City are also reportedly interested in Musonda. It’s somewhat curious why Chelsea and Arsenal are engaged in negotiations, considering both clubs are expected to be in the thick of the Premier League title chase in 2015-2016
