Zanaco eject Lumwana from Barclays Cup

Share

Zanaco made easy work of ten-men Lumwana Radiants on Sunday to advance 3-0 to the 2015 Barcalys Cup semifinals at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

The Bankers bucked the trend on Sunday after Saturday’s doubleheader at the same venue saw Nkwazi and Green Buffaloes beat Mufulira Wanderers and Power Dynamos respectively on post-match penalties following scoreless draws.

Fackson Kapumbu put Zanaco 1-0 into the break with a 15th minute free kick before Ziyo Tembo headed in the second in the 47th minute.

Lumwana were reduced to ten men in the 49th minute when Rogers Mulenga was red carded by referee Jan Sikazwe after he fouled Lee Ngoma in an off-the-ball incident.

George Chilufya put Allan Kamwanga’s side out of their misery when he headed in Zanaco’s final goal in the 59th minute.

Zanaco, who have played in each Barclays Cup since it began in 2007, advance to the semifinal for the first time since 2012.

The Bankers have never won the Barclays Cup with their 2010 runners-up finish their best result in the competition to date.
