Kaingu accused of wanting to close CBU

Education Minister Hon. Michael Kaingu congratulates Kagem General Manager Dibya Baral on signing of an MOU scholarship agreement with the Univeristy of Zambia and Copperbelt University.
Copperbelt University Academics Union Secretary General Elaston Njovu has accused Higher Education Minister Michael Kaingu of planning to close the institution.

Mr. Njovu says it is obvious that the Minister wants the University to be closed because it does not matter to him whether the institution closes or not.

He says looking at Dr. Kaingu’s failure to address the challenges the University is facing, it is obvious that he is not interested in the welfare of the students at the universities in the country.

Mr. Njovu says the Minister should respond to the letter that was given to him 5 months ago.

He states that the lectures have refused to report for work under the leadership of CBU Vice-chancellor Professor Naison Ngoma.

Mr Njovu says the leadership of Professor Ngoma has failed to run the university.

And Copperbelt University Academics Union Deputy Secretary General Pamela Mutale says the Union expects Dr. Kaingu to make a decision that will positively transform CBU considering that he has been presented with the report.

  1. This CBU issue is interesting, we have intellectuals who are willing to say no to mediocrity and stay consistent with their message. Kaingu was hoping the matter will die a natural death. Academic excellence requires committed stakeholders to uphold standards. surely CBU management has failed and there is need to dismiss them. why is government protecting mediocrity by maintaining Naison Ngoma’s management? Throw Jonah out of the ship and there will be calmness and return to academic focus at CBU!

  2. The government was given hard evidence outlining the extent to which public resources were being mismanaged by the Ngoma leadership. The ACC is even probing some of the issues. What is most puzzling is the cold feet govt has developed in dealing with the issue. Why should the entire govt machinery rendered impotent over one Naison Ngoma?
