Mufulira Wanderers legend Fredrick Kashimoto believes his old club will next season be ripe to challenge for the league title.

After ending a nine-year exile from the FAZ Super Division, promoted Wanderers have exceeded expectations by putting up a spirited display so far in the season.

With three matches left to play, fifth placed Wanderers have 42 from 27 matches.

In an interview from Mufulira, Kashimoto, an ex-Wanderers coach and midfielder, said Mighty will be league contenders next season.

“This year Wanderers have performed very well and must be encouraged to work hard,” he said.

“Going by their performance this year I think next season they can even win the league,” Kashimoto said.

Zambia’s second most successful club boasts of winning the league title nine times.

“Let the executive maintain the current squad if the team is to perform well in 2016,” he said.

Kashimoto, 58, was a gifted international midfielder who won several trophies with Mighty including the 1978 league title.

  1. Ooohh Please they are playing well but i dont think they will be that much a force to reckon with. I would place my bet on Green Buffalo because they have stabilised and look more of an organised side. Red arrows may have to fight relegation next year so do Nchanga Rangers. Grren eagles is stabilising and causing displacment of traditional top 8 teams

  2. Mighty will need to poach some players for next year. They need a striker and a central defender to commande the defence

  3. Thanks for your comments Kash! i believe if the team is strengthened in the midfield and strike force and perhaps get one or two quality defenders they can give the big guns a run for their money. i don’t see then challenging for the title next year but perhaps in 2017
