Zambia end CHAN qualification drought

Share

Zambia have qualified to the Rwanda 2016 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) after drawing away to Mozambique in Maputo on Sunday.

George Lwandamina’s side drew 1-1 to advance to January’s finals 4-1 on aggregate.

Red Arrows striker Festus Mbewe put Zambia ahead in the 18th minute when he nodded-in a cross from Winston Kalengo.

It took until the 85th minute for Mozambique to get their consolation when Hagi converted from the penalty spot following a Paul Katema handball.

This is Zambia’s first CHAN qualification since 2009 when they finished third at the inaugural tournament in Cote d’Ivoire before failing to the reach the 2011 and 2014 events.

Draws for the tournament to be held from January 17 to February 7 will be held on November 18 in the host city Kigali.

  1. congrats boys.
let faz start preparations now if we hope to do better in the tournament and hopefully sell one or two players to europe and not asia please…..

    • @mature ”…sell one or two players to Europe…” as if Europe accepts trash! If you had dual nationality more player would have broken through like Charley Musonda’s 3 kids! It was easy to mov on a European passport to UK because the rules favour those with Europasses! Outside this pray hard!

  2. tO DRAW WITH MOZAMBIQUE IS NOT GREAT NEWS , WE NEED TO WORK HARD IN THE REMAINING GAMES TO QUALIFY FOR THE FINALS , BECAUSE THE REMAINING GAMES WILL BE TOUGH AS THEY WILL BE ALL AWAY GAMES IN RWANDA

    • thats what he is saying except that he should not have said ‘remaining games’ but ‘games at the finals’.
