GOVERNMENT has handed over the site where the K213 million Luapula University will be built to a consortium of contractors.

Luapula Province Minister Benson Kapaya handed over the site on behalf of President Edgar Lungu to China Energy Engineering Group, 15MCC Africa, and Ndilila Associates.
Brigadier General Kapaya said Government was committed to provide education at all levels.

“This will see an increase in the number of people attaining higher education as this university will provide different academic and professional programmes,” Gen Kapaya said.
The university once complete and enrolment starts will offer among others ecology and aquaculture programmes.

Construction is expected to take two from start to completion.

“We expect at 500 jobs to be created during the period of construction and we want to encourage the business community to take part by supplying goods and services,” he said.
He expressed his thanks to Government, stakeholders and co-operating partners that had made the launch possible.

Project manager who represented the consortium of firms Milton Gui said the group would work within the project’s guidelines and stick to the time frame.

Present at the launch was permanent secretary Boniface Chimbwali, Mansa District Commissioner Royd Chakaba and members of the public that went to witness the occasion.
The public was urged to work in harmony with the contractors and desits from acts of vandalism.

  1. Projects mbwee!!!! Where is the money? Show us the money! PF in panic mode wanting to hoodwink people! Anyway as reassured by VP Inonge Wina by 2016, some 500 000 jobs will be created, and at inception of works for Luapula University less 500 jobs that will be created there will be 499 500 more to go before December 2016!

    • THESE ARE LONG PLANNED PROJECTS WHICH ARE JUST BEING IMPLEMENTED. EVEN BEFORE SATA DIED THESE PROJECTS WHERE THERE. OR SHOULD WE SAY EVEN BEFORE PF ASSUMED OFFICE. BUILDING SCHOOLS, COLLEGES, UNIVERSITIES, ROADS PROPER MODERN HARBOURS ON OUR LAKES AND BIG RIVERS, ETC IS SPOT ON AND THAT’S WHAT YOU CALL INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT.

  2. Congratulations to all for a job well done! The dream of transforming the landscape of Higher Education in the country is slowly but surely taking shape. In the next three years, the transformation will be comparable to 30 years. There is always room for adjustments here and there or from time to time but the program is moving well. It would be a great idea to provide regular updates on TV with videos from the project sites. This is a good story for the private TV stations to prevent obvious distortions in reporting.

  3. Still giving forex to Chinese firms and wondering where the money is going to?Both China Energy Engineering Group and 15MCC Africa are Chinese firms and you are celebrating what folly….wake up!!

  4. Zambians where are you , you mean non of you can manage to do any of these works there are many civil engineers around what is it they are trained for .
Iam disappointed why have them if they can’t show theirnskill .Africans why lack the drive to do even simple jobs .

    • Zambian ‘engineers’ are mere technicians who cannot do anything without the supervision of small boys from Europe, America, China and South Africa. They cannot even build a tiny bridge over a stream. Engineers, my foot!
