UPND IS TRIBAL TO THE CORE, IT’S A FACT – SUNDAY CHANDA, VICE CHAIRPERSON, PF MEDIA AND PUBLICITY COMMITTEE
Mpika, Zambia, 30th December 2015 – We firstly wish to commend the Bemba Royal Establishment for guiding the nation as it should be that we must co-exist above and beyond any tribal inclinations whatsoever. Zambians can attest that is the position reaffirmed by His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu in his unceasing calls for national unity and realization of the One Zambia, One Nation ideal. It is also on this same premise that the PF was widely perceived as the Party of Choice because of its national character before it formed Government in 201. Unless all political players desist from tribal tendencies, they risk polluting the soul of the Zambian nation. Zambians can therefore be assured that PF will always take deliberate steps to denounce and uproot tribalism whenever it raises its ugly head.
On this same score, we are calling on UPND as a High Priest of tribal politics to confront its deeply embedded tribal politics as opposed to playing victim like they are currently doing. It is shocking that today UPND would refuse that it was founded on the objective of their considered Bemba dominance in Zambian politics. Not only was this objective immoral, it also makes UPND a poisoned chalice. In case UPND considers this as mere propaganda, we challenge them to denounce the sentiments confirmed at a rally held in Choma, Southern Province in 2015 to drum up support for UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema where veteran politician Mr. Daniel Munkombwe loudly stated that Zambians should give Tongas a chance to rule the country because they have consistently supported other tribes to get power. To this day, Mr. Hichilema has not gathered moral courage to denounce his Choma rally’s tribal mantra.
In case he has forgotten, it was said on his platform that “We the Tongas have always been very supportive of other tribes who ruled this country and there is nothing wrong for us now to demand for leadership as well. Leadership should be revolving; now it’s a Tonga, next is a Lozi and later Luvale then at least we can give it back to the Bembas who have dominated it for a long time.” It was further said on Mr. Hichilema’s platform that “It’s our time as Tongas to rule.” On Mr. Hichilema’s platform, a fear was confirmed when Mr. Munkombwe, without being censured, made it clear that they must fight the Bemba dominance. This is the core objective for UPND’s formation and we challenge them to deny it
Zambians recall that in 2006 after the demise of that charismatic Anderson Kambela Mazoka, people in UPND who had similar tribal inclinations like Daniel Munkombwe are the ones who cried on the high mountains that Anderson Mazoka must be replaced by a Tonga because he was Tonga himself. The product of that tribal mantra was Mr. Hichilema’s political birthing and we put it to him to deny that fact. We are therefore saying to UPND that they have an opportunity to confront and deal with the tribal tag than continue playing victim. We therefore wonder how the UPND thinks it can run away from its tribal history if it continues to refuse confronting its past, ugly as it is. We fail to understand how Mr. Hichilema can deny that his political career was birthed and defined by the tribal mantra he has been trying to evade since 2006.We wonder how the UPND expects Zambians to trust them with uniting the nation when they refuse to deal with their ugly past. It therefore becomes easy for ordinary Zambians to believe that indeed tribal calls were made because from the words of scripture, “out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.”
Lastly, there is a clarion call for the UPND and Mr. Hichilema to acknowledge that they do not represent and neither do they own the Tonga speaking people. The Tonga-speaking people are an honourable people who continue to make immense contributions to the development and unity of pre and post-Independence Zambia. It is therefore wrong for any political party or individual to attempt to “own” such a great people or worse still misrepresent them to be human shields, something they are not. We challenge the UPND to desist from playing the tribal card as was evidenced with the Nega Nega voting patterns and the tribal push during the on-going voter registration in southern Province.

3. Continued load shedding that is negatively affecting the economy through less productive manufacturing companies and SMEs in general
4. Continued depreciation of the kwacha now at k11,000 to 1USD. This has led to ever increasing cost of living as…

The issues above are what matter the most to Zambians and not your divisive tribal comments.

Sadly tribalism stunts are no longer political myths in Zambia, but forces that could quickly bring a country to the brink of civil war if not addressed with maturity and patriotism. The whole country is aware of the birth of HH political career.
