MATERO member of Parliament (MP) Miles Sampa says he will not resign from the Patriotic Front (PF) without consulting his relatives countrywide because he is a founder member of the ruling party.

And PF secretary-general Davies Chama has appealed to members to avoid acting on rumours and speculation created by individuals bent on destabilising the party.

Mr Sampa said individuals who are demanding his resignation from PF do not know the history of the party.

Speaking when he addressed his supporters and reopened his office at Central Park in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Sampa said he is a member of the central committee (MCC) and only reports and talks to President Lungu or Mr Chama if there is an issue.

“They are calling for my resignation because they do not know the history of the PF. They were not there when we suffered with President Michael Sata to build the party. I, therefore, cannot resign without consultation from my relatives countrywide,” he said.

Mr Sampa said the 24-hour ultimatum given to him to resign is unattainable.

He requested members asking him to resign to give him a month to go on a countrywide tour to seek advice from his relatives in all the provinces.

He said the protesters should not speak on behalf of the entire Matero constituency but should instead maintain peace and never attempt to close his office again.

“The office has been opened and it will never be closed again because I signed a one-year contract to operate from here. This is not a public property and that is why I am bringing in tight security to protect myself,” Mr Sampa said.

And Mr Chama said it is not the policy of the PF to speak on behalf of others, especially asking any member to resign without basis.
“Rumour-mongering and speculation only brings confusion to the party. We should not allow stories from people and media houses that only want to see confusion in the party to distract us,” he said.

And Mr Chama said Mr Sampa should not be asked to leave the party but should be left to decide the path he wants to take for himself.

He said his mandate as PF secretary-general is to mobilise the party and to ensure that structures and members remain intact and not to chase people.

Mr Chama said he talked to Mr Sampa after he relinquished his position as deputy minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry and that he pledged loyalty to President Lungu and the party.

He said Mr Sampa said at a joint press briefing that the only thing that would make him leave PF is death, and that stories of him wanting to leave or form his own political party are mere speculation.
Mr Chama said Mr Sampa remains a PF member.

He, however, advised Mr Sampa not to “burn bridges” if he plans to leave.

Some PF members in Matero constituency on Tuesday dared Mr Sampa to resign and prove his popularity claim.

  1. A month to consult relatives!!!!? A bit strange. Why can’t he make a decision now and then take a month to tell his relatives about his decision. Mr Samoa you either all the in or all the way out. Also may be you are trying to save our money by not causing the useless bye election. In any case good luck to you and of in this cat na mouse situation

    • Sampa is Miles away from making a decision about his future…However, he should do it now because timing in politics is very important. Meanwhile for UPND its business as usual

    • Sampa is a political chancer. He can not compare himself to Sata who resigned and formed his party straight away.

If he thinks PF will let him ascend to the top .He is kidding himself . If his dream is to be a running mate he should beg Banda first for it is upto Banda to decide who lungu chooses as running mate. Lungu wants a woman as running mate. So he is consideribg Dora Mwanakatwe so far. When Banda gives a green light Lungu will appoint a running mate.

Sampa is wasting time. He needs to be bold enough and form his own party and call it ZNPF Zambia national patriotic front. He should start from a scratch to build the party so that one day he will have a chance to rule after some of us have ruled .

Meanwhile when PF is out he will have some explaining to do regarding Ruth…

    • So if his relatives say continue serving a corrupt and insensitive govt to the masses, he will continue. I think Miles stands for nothing. Goes by the wind. Sorry he has disappointed many.

    • Baba Sampa, man up and move on, do not be spineless!! Forget about PF, you have already burnt bridges with them after that ‘tick clicking on to a dead animal’ statement!
There are two options, come up with a party now before its too late-with Guy Scott as a running mate and the likes of Kaseba running as MPs on your party, you are bound to relegate PF into a third place and qualify for a re-run against HH. Fear not, you are capable of sweeping clean, Northern, Luapula, Muchinga and cause tremors in CB and Lusaka leaving Changwa with only kumawa province to cling on to. Even Chama knows this and that is why is not in so much hurry to kick you out, he wants ample time to plead with you to stay within.
Second viable option is to join UPND and negotiate with HH as his running mate. Make…

    • Cont.
      # pre-signed arrangement that will see you take over reins from him after his term office expires just to be on a safer side from some overserious chaps from the South . Better a VP for 10 years and having a goal at the big one after that than languishing as a nobody in PF!
Baba, these are the only viable way to go, otherwise any change of mind, sticking within the PF will bring alot of misery upon yourself-don’t say you were not warned!

Bwana Sampa, in life once you make up a decision to move on, never never look back, because if you do even the little dignity you had left in you will be taken away, it just brings sorrowfulness. Chelsea’s Mourinho is your best example of what happens going back on your vomit!

  2. Why is Boko Haram Chama taking a sober tone all of a sudden? Is it that the noose is tightening around his neck as well?

  3. @itizi turu…HH sued him now he is feeling the heat. PF has now realised that they have lost the plot, tribal tag on HH, privatisation and freemason allegations wont work. They have all gone quiet, zee maningi. They are rethinking their strategy. Mukose bane, time for HH and UPND to rule has come and its unstoppable

  4. THERE IS NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE. PEOPLE ARE FULLY INFORMED AND IF YOU READ BETWEEN THE LINES OF HIS COMMENT, YOU WILL DISCOVER THAT MIES IS AFTER A POSITION OF RUNNING MATE OR ELSE PF IS TONE APART.
PEOPLE LIKE KAMBWILI, CHANDA, CHAMA AND MUMBI PHIRI EVEN IF THEY DEFECT FROM THE PARTY NO DISTURBANCE, BUT MILE, LUBINDA, KALABA AND KAMPYONGO WHEN THEY MOVE OUT, ITS CONFUSION IN PF.

  5. Miles, just send talk time to your relatives so that they can phone you. Are your relatives not on Whatsup?. Tis is computer age. You don’t need to drive to every relative for advice. And do you really have relatives countrywide? Sounds like and exaggeration of importance (a condition known as Hypomania: Defined as an overestimation of one’s capabilities)

Just talk to them on WhatsUp. No need to drive. This is rainy season. You will get stuck.

  6. Something is wrong somewhere, gangster Davies Chama has become very sober. They know know that Milles can spell doom for them if he has to go.

    • Just ask yourself: who is Sampa? Clearly be is not Tonga but Bemba. That’s why tribal Chama cannot raise his voice despite the clear threats to leave PF in Sampa’s comments. Sampa cannot afford to alienate his Bemba Cartel in PF.

  7. Miles… Kaya the problem is that he thinks its a family party and this is why we had problem when Sata died, the pf party is bigger than your family, so what if you are one of the founding member, your late uncle just picked you, Scott is not making noise a lot of people put in a lot for pf to form government e.g GBM, Pf is not a family party and if you continue with your foolish attitude in your mind thinking is was for my uncle i can do anything …….sorry

  8. Comment:Sampa earlier said the PF has faild the people of Zambia saying where is the more we promised, meaning he truely knows that PF in the last few years has done completely nothing. The one mnth he says is to mobilise his suporters and form their own club since 50% of Lungu’s cabinet belongs to him. This statement shows clearly that any time he is pulling out.

  9. My advice to Sampa is that if you believe in PF a party you started then stick to it. Rushing things will be a big miscalculation thinking that everyone is with you and yet there are supporting the party itself . Ask Nevers he thought that the whole church will rally behind him because he preached to them, but there refused to go with him in politics. Henceforth, the difficulties he is having today not that he is bad but he failed to read the people.

  10. Mr Sampa so what if you were a founding member of PF. Immediately the PF was floated to the Zambian people & they voted for it then it ceased to be a private issue and this must sink in your head that even your late Uncle MHSRIP never boasted that he was a founder member because he knew that the people were the masters. PF is a people’s party no one owns it but the masses collectively…The late President Sata & Current UPND deputy spokesperson Mr Lifwekelo are the ones who registered the PF hence learn that PF CIWASHA WASHA meaning people will come & go others will take over same applies to other parties…
