Kawilo Chilongo tips Lwandamina on duo roles

Share

Experienced coach Benjamin “Kawilo” Chilongo has warned that it would be difficult for George Lwandamina to continue doubling as Chipolopolo and Zesco United coach.

The ex-Nkana and Ndola United coach is advising Chicken George to consider relinquishing one position.

Zesco chairman Dennis Banda at the weekend said Lwandamina should choose between the club and the national team.

“You can’t serve two masters at the same time. It is either Lwandamina takes up the national team job on a permanent basis or remain at Zesco,” Chilongo said.

“George is a good coach and he has done well at national team but you can’t perform better at both teams. If he cannot be given the national team job on a permanent basis let him remain at Zesco,” he said.

Lwandamina was hired as interim Zambia coach last June after the dismissal of Honour Janza.

“I don’t know what FAZ is waiting for before engaging a coach. If FAZ have the capacity to employ, let them engage George on a permanent basis or let them look at other local coaches,” Chilongo said.

Chipolopolo have never had a permanent coach since the departure of French trainer Herve Renard in October 2013.

  1. Lwandamina has been doing dual roles without any problems. Dual roles have also been done in the past even when Zambian football was at its peak with coaches such as Alex Chola. There is just a few jealous chaps trying to pull down Lwandamina. Too much Pull Him Down (PHD) syndrome pa zed.

    • Do you understand what the role of a national coach is ?How is he going to go round identifying players for the national team when he is engaged with ZESCO?The employers of Lwandamina will not be happy to be paying him while half of the time he is away.
How will he cope with the pressure of the club and the national team?Mind you ZESCO will be engaged with CAF champions league and Chipolopolo in the AFCON and World cup qualifying matches this year.
Lets be serious and engage a technically experienced coach not the chipante pante coaches we have currently.

    • @el nino you surely do not know what you are talking about. The head coach does not spend the whole day identifying players, he has a technical team who work like scouts. Learn how the system works.

  2. Its only in Africa where we allow such mediocrity. How does he serve two masters? The goals of the national team and those of the club are not the same. The club has done well to ask him to choose. Polygamy in this football management can’t work.

    • Roy Keane in 2014 was assistant coach for both Aston Villa and his national team Ireland. Be proud to be Africa and know that the fact that a Muzungu has not done it can’t be done elsewhere in the world. It’s not mediocrity but ability.

  3. Someone argues that even players should choose, how shallow can we get. The FA can’t pay a full time coach & they are abusing the Chicken. Nobody eats patriotism, Chicken should demand what’s best for him & all future local coaches to be engaged by the FA. The day the FA has money or it becomes expedient for them, they will kick Chicken out without thinking of his patriotism.
