The Zambia police service has ruled out political interference in the summoning and subsequent arrest of UPND vice president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba for Administration popularly known as GBM.

Responding to a press query by Pan African Radio Journalist Hermit Hachilonde, Service Spokesperson Charity Munganga Chanda said the law enforcement agency is professional and autonomous and does not operate under anyone’s instructions.

“We don’t get instructions to arrest anyone. We do our own investigations and make up our minds to arrest based on the findings”

“We are not politicians but professionally trained officers” Charity Munganga said

Police yesterday arrested UPND Vice President Geoffrey Mwamba Bwalya and the charges for the offence of unlawful drilling contrary to section 66(1) (a) as read with section 21 C and D of the Penal Code.

The police recovered offensive weapons at Mr Mwamba’s premises in Villa Elizabetha area of Lusaka.
Among the weapons were Pangas, a spear, 8 rounds of ammunition and a gun.

Listen to GBM addressing his supporters saying he will go for the throat of President Edgar Lungu and how he would never have been President without his money

  1. Charity you are playing a dangerous game, you have a long career ahead of you. Don’t throw it away because of politics. Listen to your conscious, and believe me, you will eventually suffer with a bad conscious which is terrible.

    • Charity,

You are/were professionally trained by who? Being a spokesperson is a dangerous position and as the advice above you do well to tone down.

This GBM saga is all political….even my grandson says so!

    • charity you woman who looks like a man, listen to me – GBM would have appeared at any police station if asked to do so. There was absolutely no reason for police to tear down the gate to his house to gain access. all you needed to do was send him a call out. Do you get it? at least try to compensate your ugliness by showing some intelligence

    • damn! PF police don’t know what `fire` they have caused for themselves,,,, chitimukulu is angry now,,, very angry

    • WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO DRIVE..BUT WITHIN THE CONFINES OF THE STIPULATED LAW, WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO ASSOCIATION..BUT WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE LAW, WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO WORSHIP FREELY BUT DOES NOT MEAN GO PROVOKE THE GRZ. ETC. WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH/EXPRESSIONS, BUT THOSE EXPRESSIONS MUST BE CHECKED AND UTTERED WITH ABSOLUTE RESPECT, IT DOESN’T MEAN GO AROUND ANNOYING YOUR NEIGHBORS WITH HURT SPEECHES JUST COZ U ARE FREE TO OPEN YOUR MOUTH.THERE’S NOTHING LIKE “ABSOLUTE FREEDOM”. FREEDOM SHOULD NOT BE ABUSED, WHEN WE ABUSE ANYTHING THAT WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO OWN, WE RISK LOSING IT. FREEDOM IS NOT AN EXCEPTION- ABUSE IT AND YOU LOSE IT.

    • This going for throat statement, us chakolwas always used it when we are loaded,,,, I don’t understand how its now a crime,,,, even lungu himself uses it every friday

    • Munganga, nobody disputes your professional training except we know the manual you have used since Welensky. For as long as the status quo remains you will be saying “inde bbwana mkubwa” to cadres like Kanganja. & you can’t challenge his thinking. Ask Brenda or the men & women who were under reakl professionals like Xavier Musonda. Then you will know you guys are worse than the “brainless” SS.

    • Fascism is on the rise in Zambia. When the Police Force (PF) can detain somebody without bail, soon enough they will be killing people in cells, like in Syria. PF is an elected nightmare that Zambians have to bury very quickly.

    • A flight student from Egypt is facing deportation from the United States after being investigated by federal agents for posting on his Facebook page that he was willing to kill Donald Trump and the world would thank him. While U.S. prosecutors have not charged 23-year-old Emadeldin Elsayed with a crime, immigration authorities arrested him last month at the Los Angeles-area flight school he attended and now are trying to deport him, attorney Hani Bushra said Wednesday.Elsayed, who is being held in a jail in Orange, California, is devastated at seeing his dreams of becoming a pilot dashed over what Bushra acknowledged was a foolish social media post.It seems like the government was not able to get a criminal charge to stick on him, so they used the immigration process to have him leave the…

    • STEVE IF YOU LIVE IN AMERICA AS PER YOUR FLAG THEN YOU SHOULD KNOW HOW POLICE THERE WOULD SWIFTLY DEAL WITH ANY SUSPECTED INSURGENCY. IN FACT IN AMERICA BAIL WOULD BE DENIED TO ANY PERSON WITH SUCH KIND OF ALLEGATION OF INSURGENCY. BE REALISTIC AND TELL PEOPLE WHAT THE AMERICAN LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES WOULD DO. EVEN HERE WHERE I LIVE, INSURGENCY CON NOT BE TOLERATED. AND WHAT DANGEROUS GAME IS SHE PLAYING? VERY SOON YOU WILL START TALKING AGAINST GBM AFTER AUGUST 11 WHEN HH LOSES AGAIN AND GBM TAKES OVER AS UPND PRESIDENT. SO, IN YOUR THINKING GBM SHOULDN’T HAVE BEEN ARRESTED?

    • @ peter

If according to your flag you live in UK, then be honest and look at the difference between ZP and any other UK Constabulary. If I was you, I would be ashamed of inbreed hypocrisy, ignorance and selective memory which you are displaying day in – day out in order to justify ruling party sponsored thuggery of which ZP is integral part.

    • @Short memory,a flight student from Egypt is facing deportation from the United States after being investigated by federal agents for posting on his Facebook page that he was willing to kill Donald Trump and the world would thank him. While U.S. prosecutors have not charged 23-year-old Emadeldin Elsayed with a crime, immigration authorities arrested him last month at the Los Angeles-area flight school he attended and now are trying to deport him.Elsayed, who is being held in a jail in Orange, California, is devastated at seeing his dreams of becoming a pilot dashed over what Bushra acknowledged was a foolish social media post.

  2. If you are professional why arrest someone only after a cadre (Frank Bwalya) tells you to do so. After all we all heard what GBM said. He was just saying he will go straight out to ensure Lungu loses. But English not being our mother tongue PF cadres and Frank Bwalya say he wants to physically harm the president. Kaponyas.

    • That is why I say the only way to stop this lack of professionalism by the police is to start holding individual police officers responsible for their actions. Prosecute them in their individual capacities. That way we will eliminate the excuse of being given orders by politicians.
These are not children they are adults who can tell right from wrong and are trained to apply the law fairly and equitably.

    • Wait until he paraphrases the following…

      Cut throat
      Pain in the neck
      Cut nose to spite face
      Deep throat
Go for the jugular… Oh he just did that one.

What are the chances I get arrested for saying politicians in Zed are all having a massive brain freeze and losing supporters at break neck speed while giving me a giant pain in the…

    • Buulsheet! It is a metaphorical expression in common use in the English language!

Get educated and learn to speak chizungu you dodo!

Treasonable offense my foot! Next you will be saying that THE GLOVES ARE OFF means no offensive weapons! In English it means exactly the OPPOSITE.

Maybe you were professionally trained, but the law is written in ENGLISH so if you failed that how can you interpret the law?

  3. Charity on 11th August u will truly regret those political prosecution will land you in trouble. Be mindful Zambian wont tolerant POLICE FRONT on 11th August like Ugandans u will cry watch out yourself u are too young to be used by naked Frank Bwalya

  4. Maybe the opposition should promise lungu that presidential house for ex heads of state that he cancelled, maybe he will then let us chose our preferred candidates freely plezzzee.
To be fair to him, he was advised he had the capacity to borrow 10 billion to throw at infrastructure and there was no way he could lose after that.

Also LT why are you not mentioning the golf club, catapults and boxing gloves that were found that PF classified as military weapons used for training as reported by police????

  5. Professional renegades indeed! You are a disgrace! We have lost confidence in you and your institution of Zambia police. Is being brutal and merciless on defenceless people professional? Since when did allowing drunk carders ransack the airport runway become professional? Your institution is openly biased to the ruling party; even confirmed by top officials in executing POA; what a shame! The entire police command controlled by thugs and drunkards and you call it professional?

  6. Anyone care to translate the English expression loved by politicians and business people the world over? I am referring to the expression “to go for the jugular”… Please let me know where this jugular vein is located and I will draw my own parallels.

Example of usage, Huffington Post headline Jeb Bush still does not know how to go for the jugular…

    • GOING FOR THE JUGULAR MEANS? GETTING TO WHERE IT WILL HURT AN OPPONANT TO FINISH HIM OR HER BUSSINESS WISE OR POLITICAL.

  7. I am sorry I beg to differ with Charity Munganga on applying professionalism despite professed professional training as something is amiss! Just what gain is there for the police in being non professional? Please spare the layman spokesperson jargon as professionality in police approach is being opened to question in the public eye! If Zambia is indeed a Christian nation believed so by these impostor clergy eulogizing this police brutality and state machinery against citizens then they must not be oblivious to what became of Judas Iscariot and his pieces of silver. It only lasted for so long and the wind of change finally triumphs! Humiliation of citizens for appeasement of party politicking should not be part of police service! Though it hurts that in the end its the taxpayer that…

  8. contd….. suffers settling such incompetence bills its high time the state starts responding to multitudes of law suits brought against it by offended citizens! How can the greed to live off the suffering masses lead to such injustices? Zambia is indeed a failed state and when investors run away we don’t blame it on such behavior of always using such trivia to persecute those who may wish to serve better oblivious that the outside world observes us through different lens!

    • Uh, what kind of weapons is this metaphor? Maybe we found it at gbm gym but we did not know it was a weapons like a golf stick.

If the boss will buy us some we can takes them to gbms snd areests him again

We wants to be professionals all the times!

  9. …how come Davis Chama was never brought to book for his gun branding in western province….Ndola airport saga was a very serious incident….take Col. Kaunda to instruct police to arrest those who harassed journalist in eastern province

    • …the list is long….what professionalism is she talkig about…..coming to think of it..can the professional police establish for how long these weapons been at GBM’s premises….??..remember he was a PF king pin when there was Kabimba and his rivalry factions

  10. There is a difference between being professionally trained, and being ethical. It seems our police command lack ethics, that moral principle which could help them act professionally.

  11. True, professionally trained but operationally very incompetent and compromised at management level.
Charity…… You can live a lie all you want to…. But only a few politically biased cadres are dumb enough to believe you.
    The world is watching you!!!

  12. @Dokotor

Strange! “Cutting a throat of an opponent is metaphorical expression! with pangas in your back yard!” Please try to use the same expression on Presidents Obama or Zuma.

As long as there is someone out there who feels threatened or offended by the words and reports to the police, the police anywhere in the world will ALWAYS issue a call out to get the context in which the words are uttered.

    • @ Luapula Premier

Do you realize that calling yourself “Luapula Premier” is more SEDITIOUS than anything GBM has said?
Just try to think, if you can.

  13. I THINK POLICE ARE NOT PROFESSIONAL. I STILL WANT THEM TO ANSWER ME IN A PROFOUND WAY. IS GBM WHO WAS A MINISTER OF DEFENCE AND AT THE SAME TIME A WELL KNOWN BUSINESS MAN NOT LISENCED TO HAVE A GUN IN HIS HOUSE?
WE HAVE SEEN NEARLY ALL MINISTERS HAVE GUNS INCLUDING KAMPYONGO. WHO WILL TRUST YOU IF YOU CAN GO TO HIS HOSUE WITHOUT A WITNESS OR HIS LAWYERS AND THEN FIND THOSE ITEMS, WHAT ABOUT IF THE OWNER SAYING THEY ARE NOT MINE AND YOU JUST PLANTED THEM AT HIS PREMISES WHAT WILL YOU SAY?
MUNGANGA YOU MISS A MARK HERE DEAR SISTER.

  14. This is what PF has done to mother Zambia!

Their selfishness and greed have destroyed our Peace just to stay in Government and keep on stealing.

I curse the LIAR and THIEF Sata that brought them into power and I am warning Lungu his Kabwe tactics to try and win in August will not be forgotten.

  15. charity please continue doing yo work professionally….this is a very clear case….did anyone tell gbm wat to say or was it put in his mouth by ECL????/ ailapwilafye umulilo and he has to dance to the tune of his reckless statement kwasila……nothing political here…….#ECL WE LOVE ECL

  16. don’t support foolish things, if things are not oke ,plz cum out and condemn, Gbm and Hh bazinama chifukwa cha munyono.
