PRESS RELEASE
Date: 5th March, 2016
Venue: Golden Peacock Hotel, Lusaka

Madam President, The National Chairperson, The National Secretary, distinguished members of the National Policy Committee (NPC), members of the press; I want to welcome you all to this special press briefing.

After two days of extensive deliberations, the National Policy Committee which is the Governing Organ of our Party has made the following key resolutions:

1. NATIONAL CONVENTION

Following the NPC meeting which was held on 14thNovember, 2014 which resolved that another NPC meeting be called to set the date for the holding of the FDD National Convention, the NPC has resolved that the National Convention will be held from 9 to 11 December, 2016.

Consequently, all members of the National Policy Committee will continue in office until the next Party Convention.

Meanwhile, the Party shall continue with its program of holding party elections at ward, constituency and provincial levels in readiness for the National Convention to be held on the aforementioned dates.

2. APPOINTMENT

The National Policy Committee has made the following appointments to fill the vacant NPC positions:
i. MS JULIAN CHISUPA has been appointed Deputy National Chairperson
ii. MS ANGELICA RAMSEY has been appointed as the National Chairperson for Gender and Women Affairs
iii. MR. BWALYA NGANDU has been appointed National Chairperson for Differently Abled Persons.
iv. MR HAPPY CHONGO has been appointed Chairperson for Justice and Good Governance

3. NOMINATION FEES

The Nomination fees for the Presidential, Parliamentary, Mayoral and Municipal level candidates as determined by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) are exorbitant and prohibitive.

The role of E.C.Z is to ensure that the country holds free, fair, transparent and credible elections. Fundraising is not E.C.Z’s responsibility. Therefore, it is folly for E.C.Z to try to use Nomination Fees for fundraising. Moreover the money for elections has already been budgeted for in the National Budget.

The N.P.C has therefore resolved to engage E.C.Z and pursue the Commission to revise the Nomination Fees downwards.

I wish to declare on behalf of the President and the entire Party leadership that as FDD we are ready for the 11th August, 2016 General Elections. I further urge all our leaders and members across the country to go flat out and recruit more people to our Party.

I thank you

HON. CHIFUMU K. BANDA (MP)
VICE PRESIDENT (FDD)

    • The guy had gone into hibernation. I nearly forgot that FDD had other members apart from Edith Nawakwi and Antonio Mwanza.

  1. WHY DECEMBER AND NOT BEFORE AUGUST ELECTIONS? SOMEBODY WANTS TO KEEP ON TRYING IN PERPETUITY. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE CONVENTION WOULD BE BEFORE ELECTIONS.

  2. THE STRONG WIND OF CHANGE IS SWEEPING ACROSS ZAMBIA. CHANGE IS WHAT WE ALL NEED IN ZAMBIA. EDGAR LUNGU HAS FAILED US. WE CAN’T CONTINUE TO HAVE SUCH A CORRUPT PERSON AT STATE HOUSE AS REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT. LUNGU HAS OVER STRAINED OUR ECONOMY BECAUSE HIM AND HIS MINIONS ARE BUSY LOOTING THE MEAGER RESOURCES THAT OUR COUNTRY HAS, ON DAILY BASIS. LUNGU IS A BIG NUISANCE AT STATE HOUSE. IT ONLY TAKES LUNGU’S PRONOUNCEMENT TO HAVE THE TWO UNIVERSITIES OPENED. BUT SINCE HE DOESN’T LOVE US THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE, HE IS BUSY MAKING FUN OF OUR CHILDREN FOR LANGUISHING IN STREETS. ABASH LUNGU! ABASH LOOTERS! ABASH PF!
