Horoya jet in for Zesco clash

Zesco United’s opponents Horoya AC of Guinea have arrived for this weekends CAF Champions League clash.

Horoya arrived at 15h30 in Ndola on Tuesday ahead of Saturday’s first round, first leg match at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

“I cannot give away my strategy but effectively we have come here to win the game,” Horoya coach Charles Zvunka said.

“I never knew about Zesco but the minute we drew them in the first round I did some research on them and I can say I know a little more about them now.”

Horoya is the second Guinea team Zesco will play in the Champions League following last seasons elimination at the same stage at the hands of AS Kaloum.

Kaloum beat Zesco 5-4 on post-match penalties after the tie had ended 2-2 on aggregate.

Meanwhile, Horoya are not new to Zambia after they eliminated Green Buffaloes in the 1983 CAF Cup Winners Cup quarterfinals via a 2-1 aggregate win after losing 1-0 away in Lusaka.

The Guinea champions advanced to the first round after a 4-0 aggregate win over AS Douanes of Senegal whom they beat by the same margin in the final leg at home in Conakry on February 28.

Zesco beat Al Ghazala of South Sudan 3-0 on aggregate following a 1-0 away win in Juba on February 26.

  1. ZESCO Must put up a good performance not like they played here in Juba. However, we wish them well.
