President Edgar Lungu says Tuesdays meeting called by the catholic bishops to discuss matters relating to the smooth campaign and holding of the August general elections should not be politicized.
President Lungu says the meeting for all political parties has been called by the Catholic Bishops and that he is happy that two other Church mother bodies have been brought on board to moderate the meeting to be held at Kabingila House.
The Catholic Bishops have invited the Council of Church in Zambia -CCZ and the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia – EFZ – to be part of the meeting.
Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda says the President has agreed to attend the meeting because the concept letter prepared by the Catholic Bishops was in conformity with his plans.
And Mr. Chanda says the President is disturbed that former Vice President GUY SCOTT can be against the Church’s call for dialogue among political parties.
Mr. Chanda has told ZNBC News in an interview that the President says Dr. Scott’s utterance as quoted in some media publication is unfortunate.
And President Edgar Lungu has with immediate effected directed the Zambia Cooperatives Federation to work with the Zambia National Service to quicken the installation of the solar milling plants.
The President says he wants to see the solar milling plants to start offloading cheaper Mealie meal country wide.
President Lungu is not pleased that the price of Mealie meal has remained high in some parts of the country.
Special assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda says the directive is with immediate effect.
Meanwhile ZCF Director General James Chirwa says over 65 solar milling plants that are installed in the various parts of the country are currently operational.
Mr. Chirwa says the solar milling plants that are operational have so far been distributed to five provinces, Lusaka, Northern, North Western, Muchinga and Eastern Provinces.
President Lungu has initiated the installation of solar milling plants that is been spearheaded by ZCF.
Imwe ba Lungu, you are not serious and are completely clueless. you say one thing and do another. You are so disingenuous it is not even funny. it is obvious you think you are dealing with what you perceive to be a nation full of daft people. You give a deaf ear to anyone that is not part of PF, case in point, young woman stripped naked, you have yet to say a word. Frank Bwalya gets clobbered and you are all over issuing statements. does someone not tell you how this looks like????
“Do as I say, not as I do”. That is my MO.
meant to say what this looks like????
kind of annoys me seeing this idi.ot
That photo speaks for itself…that is an empty tin!!
*****. The violence is perpetrated by political parties and you say the meeting should not be politicised.
I think chipumputu nayamba
This is truly one lazy incompetent bum…surely how can a Political issue NOT be Politicised…what a moron we have for a president!!
He finds it hard just to tell his cadres to stop violence. He is the key.
A president as utterly dull as those who support him
Guy Scott was right Lungu just needs to order his people cadres to stop and then issue an order to the Zambia police to stop tear gassing oposition parties but behave professionally without taking g sides a meeting with Bishops with not solve any thing Lungu should stop using the church he must stop pretending to be a Catholic it is a very long process to become one no short cuts.
Comment: A meeting of political parties to discuss the need for non-violent elections is surely political. Political leader leaders will need to commit themselves and their supporters to holding free, fair and credible elections on 11 August 2016. The President has the powers and state apparatus to deliver to the people of Zambia peaceful elections.
Comment: it seems in zambia politics have destroyed our culture. We no longer have respect for one another. Worse off, youths have no respect for parents. Politics should not be a life and death situation. Some people are ready kill just to become presidents, ready to use money to hire innocent youths. Let me remind all of us that money is not everything. No one can bribe or corrupt God. Let not greed drive our agenda to become president but love.
I wonder whether I should advise President Lungu to attend that meeting in person or rather delegate to one of his senior officials and give them his mandate. Given this atmosphere, I suspect that some opposition leaders will use this face to face meeting to embarrass the President in the mistaken belief that they can show people that they are all presidents.
Anyway, I shouldn’t worry, the President is a humble personality who respects any person no matter their station in life. That is his greatest asset as a leader. To borrow from the Sounds programme, the difference with others is clear.
wise head, please clap up. The president did not need to be asked by bishops and pastors to end violence, for goodness sake, he is the head of state. He should just command it but the sad thing is it is his cadres that are violent and him setting the state police to teargas the UPND. He is the president of Zambia not just PF.
ECL should just call for national day of prayer for the cessation of violence.
PRAYERS DID NOT WORK IT WAS ALL A SHAM
@Jay Jay, to borrow your words, what a moron you are! For your information and education, in spoken English the meaning of words is derived from the context. In this case, the message by the President is that as the meeting is convened by Senior Christian leaders politicians should give reSpect to the conveners who are not politicians but neutral arbiters in a political problem. The President has said this as he is anxious tomresolve these problems once and for all. Other progressive meanings from the context could be: keep the good for nothing cadres away; invited political party leaders to keep the campaigns out of the meeting and take a non-partisan stance ( you may have seen what happens in the US Congress); ALL the conveners to take a neutral stance like the Catholics have done etc…
Jay Jay, I hope that I have helped educate you to understand what you read and hear. Even as you try to propagate the UPND campaign message, you can do it intelligently. Should you need further guidance please do not hesitate to contact me for assistance, I am only a blog away.
@10.1, I, for goodness sake, a President cannot stop violence alone without the cooperation of the opposition leaders. It’s nothing new, do you remember the Indaba at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross that brought together KK and the opposition then? It’s the Zambian way of solving political problems when each party thinks they are right and spend their time thinking that they are entertaining us with accusations and counter accusations.
Is Lungu on drugs. Waste of space!
ba UPND u oppose everything coming from others. ECL can not solve all the problems alone. even wen yo HH became republican president if everyone was to sit and fold arms hoping that he will solve the nation problems alone, the country cant go anywhere.
