Zesco smell Champions League group stage

Zesco United are 90 minutes away from ending their seven-year CAF Champions League group stage draught after a resounding away win in Mali on Saturday night.

An Idris Mbombo brace and one goal from midfielder Mwape Mwelwa handed Zesco their second away in in this years Champions League and their biggest to date in the same competition since 2009 when they beat El Merriekh of Sudan 3-2 in Khartoum.

Meanwhile, Stade Malien took a 17th minute lead through Moussakoye Diallo but midfielder Mwelwa equalised on the stroke of half time to see the two sides go 1-1 into the break.

DR Congo-born striker Mbombo then fired a brace in 75th and 84th minutes.

Zesco now need a draw at home on April 20 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola to ensure their passage to the Champions League group stage in June.

    • Sounds like an essay written by a dull Grade 5 pupil. Is this a report about what happened in Sudan or Mali? and what was the score line?

Poor journalism – a real sign of the deplorable state of our Education system, BWAFYA!

  1. The reader has to search for the score in the article. Where were you trained to write?

  2. LT plse plse where are the editors, most stories if not all stories are full of spelling errors or grammatical errors. What’s wrong kanshi?

  3. Am not a fan of this pf website, but my brother a real soccer fan should know some of the soccer jargon, a brace from mbombo that means 2 goals and a goal from mwape that’s 1 goal add them you have 3 goals, the maliens scored a goal first that makes it stade de malien 1 zesco United 3.

  4. I have never read an Article on LT without grammatical errors. Never! By the way Divide and Rule, not everyone is a ‘Real Soccer Fan’. How can a Journalist not be able to write? That’s the standard of Journalism in Zambia. Very Poor. And its not LT only.

  5. Thanks DIVIDE and RULE !!! What scores do these people want ? how sure are you that these journalists are not educated ? If you were that educated you would have known the score line because that information is present in that story. Congrats to ZESCO UNITED.

  6. Full of errors but congratulations to Zesco United. If your company supplied power as well as they played football we would be happy.

  7. faz please talk to mombo this Congolese striker so that he is given a dual citizenship and start play for chipolo polo boys. let Jersey 10 and 17 for lumwana team be assessed by chicken. the boys are good.
