D-Day for Zesco and Zanaco

It is D-Day on Tuesday for Zesco United and Zanaco in their respective continental engagements.

In the CAF Champions League Zesco are on the brink of another milestone while in the Confederation Cup, Zanaco are battling to remain in the race.

At Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zesco host Stade Malien of Mali in a last 16, final leg match leading 3-1 from the first leg in Bamako on April 9.

A draw is all Zesco need to become the only Zambian club to have qualified to the Champions League group stage on two occasions after setting the trend in 2009 in what was also first for a local club.

Zesco welcome back midfielder Cletus Chama and defender David Owino who missed the first leg due to suspension.

Strike Idris Mbombo will be targeting his fifth goal from six matches in this years Champions League.

And away in Gebes, Tunisia, Zanaco face the prospect of elimination in the Confederation Cup second round.

Zanaco face Stade Gabesien of Tunisia with the two sides tied at 1-1 from the first leg in Lusaka on April 9.

Zanaco have not enjoyed any luck in North Africa where they have lost six times.

Their best result away was a 1-1 away draw against Egyptian club Haras al Hedoood in the group stage of the 2010 Confederation Cup.
