Ngonga, Mayuka celebrate continental qualification

Alex Ngonga, Kennedy Mweene and Rainford Kalaba were in continental club cup action on Wednesday in crucial must-win games.

At Attridgeville on Wednesday, goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene was on the bench for homeside Sundowns in their Champions League last 16, final leg match against AS Vita of DR Congo in which they trailed 1-0 from the first leg in Kinshasa.

Sundowns won 2-1 but bow out of the Champions League 2-2 on away goals rule and are relegated to the Confederation Cup last 16 in May.

-ZAMALEK
Striker Emmanuel Mayuka did not feature in Zamalek’s 1-1 away draw against MO Bejaia in Algeria on Tuesday that saw the Cairo side advance 3-1 on aggrregate after winning 2-0 in the first leg in Cairo.

-CF MOUNANA
Striker Alex Ngonga missed a post-match penalty for Gabon side CF Mounana in their 5-4 shoot-out win away to ENPPI of Egypt after the tie finished 2-0 in favour of the hosts to end level at 2-2 on aggregate.

Ngonga played the full 90 minutes as Mounana matched on to the pre-group stage of the Confederation Cup.

TP MAZEMBE

On Wednesday in Lubumbashi, Rainford Kalaba played 58 minutes while Given Singuluma came off in the 70th minute of TP Mazembes 1-1 home draw against Wydad Casablanca.

Kabaso Chongo and Nathan Sinkala did not play for the defending African champions who have been ousted 3-1 on aggregate by Wydad to see them relegated to the last 16 of the Confederation Cup.

  1. its like these players are busy warming the benches whenever they are and these are the guys we are trusting as our national team .

  2. No doubt Mayuka is finished! He failed in England, failed in France and now he is warning the bench in an African league.

    • Absolutely correct, all our players are warming up benches and this Mayuka, is really finished. Failed in England, France and now Egypt. He must pack his bags and get back to Kabwe Warriors, maybe his carrier could be rejuvanated. Too much pounds in his pocket, so he does not bother any more.

  3. LT shud b categorical ! how can someone b in action wen he is warming d bench & in some instances does not make up d coach’s choice fo dat particular match .
