Phiri’s Power set for Kitwe derby trial

Nkana on Saturday will test just how potent Power Dynamos are under caretaker coach Anderson Phiri.

Ailing Power visit their high-flying arch-rivals at Nkana Stadium in the first leg of the 2016 seasons’ FAZ Super Division Kitwe derby in Wusakile.

This will be Phiri’s biggest examination since he was appointed interim coach after his boss Tennant Chilumba was fired a week ago.

The derby will be Phiri’s third match in a space of seven days after beating Nkwazi 1-0 at home on May 7 and drawing 0-0 away to Zanaco last Wednesday.

Power also head into the match with the bragging rights from their last derby meeting that they won 1-0 last August.

That win would eventually turn out to be Chilumba’s first and last derby win over Nkana after previously picking three defeats and two draws since his arrival at Arthur Davies Stadium in June, 2013.

The teams are seperated by just five points heading into the derby with Power in 5th on 15 points behind leaders Nkana.

Both sides have a clean bill of health with Nkana banking striker Walter Bwalya for the goals while Power have Martin Phiri to turn to for the goals.

Meanwhile, Nkana head into the match bruised after losing 3-1 away at Green Buffaloes in Lusaka last Saturday that saw them suffer their first FAZ Super Division defeat of the 2016 season.

The pressure is now on coach Aggrey Chiyangi and Nkana to redeem themselves against a Power side that so many Nkana fans consider to be second-rate to their pacesetting side that has led the log since the start of this years campaign on March 12.
