Former Lusaka Mayor Fisho Mwale has declared his intentions of contesting the position of Executive Mayor for the city of Lusaka as independent candidate.

Speaking during the press briefing, at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross today, Mr Mwale said he had enough experience to vie for the position.

He boasted of introducing idea of construction of the first shopping mall in Lusaka, the famous Manda Hill.

“My vision is to transform the City of Lusaka into an Afrocentric city. I also lobbied the construction of the City Market under Late President Fredrick Chiluba. If elected as Executive Mayor of Lusaka, I will bring in a Bye law that will prohibit Councilors from owning Land during the tenure of their office.

“If I achieved that much when the Mayor had no powers what more now when the Mayor will have Executive Powers” he asked.

Among the people that attended the briefing were PF and MMD Members. The briefing was attended by Church of God Overseer Bishop John Mambo who offered the opening prayer and MMD founder Member Teddy Mulonga.

The former Lusaka Mayor who is also proprietor of the Yalelo Fishing Company also thanked President Edgar Lungu for consenting to the new constitution that ushered in the provision for Executive Mayor.

And Zambia Amateur Athletics Association-ZAAA- president Elias Mpondela has announced his intentions to contest for the position of Executive Mayor for Lusaka in the August 11, general election.

Mr. Mpondela told ZNBC News an interview that he has decided to stand as Executive Mayor of Lusaka as an independent candidate in order to offer service to the people.

He says his vast experience in administration over the years puts him in good position to run the affairs of the city.

Mr. Mpondela has pledged to make Lusaka city a better place worth the status of a capital city.

Former Lusaka Mayor Fisho Mwale has also expressed interest to contest for Lusaka Executive Mayor

  1. I think Fisho is a more likeable candidate, compared to the other candidates who’ve come forward so far, i.e Mulenga Sata and Elias Mpondela. Fisho is more likely to win!

    • The idea of Mpondela vying for the position of executive may just end his reign as ZAAA president which will be a good thing, he has been on that seat for longer than I can imagine with the likes of ZOCAGA president. Wamuyayaya!

  2. WE HAD THIS INFORMATION LONG BEFORE THIS ANNOUNCEMENT. HE IS BEING BACKED BY THE EASTERN BLOCK PEOPLE, INCLUDING RB AND ECL. ALL PROMINENT PEOPLE FROM EASTERN PROVINCE ARE BACKING HIM BECAUSE THEY FEEL LUSAKA IS THEIR TOWN. HE IS ACTUALLY A PF CANDIDATE; THE INDEPENDENT TAG IS JUST A
PLOY SO THAT IF HE WINS HE WOULD BE ABLE TO WORK WITH ANY PARTY IN POWER. I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST HIM, HE IS THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THE JOB. THE ONLY DIFFICULTY I HAVE IS THE TRIBALISM INVOLVED.

    • Short sighted people! Sata’s son is supported by who? All you see is tribalism eish! The worst tribalist was sata pretending to balance brains when he didn’t have one himself!

  3. AS LONG AS HIS ALLEGIANCE IS TO THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE NOT THE SITTING PRESIDENT. THE PROBLEM WE HAVE IN ZAMBIA IS PUBLIC SERVICE JOBS TIED TO THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY OR PARTY LEAVES NO AUTONOMY FOR ONE TO DO THE JOB FOR HIS EMPLOYERS – THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE. THERE IS NEED FOR SEPARATION OF POWERS. ITS TIME THOSE WHO VIE FOR OFFICE PLEDGE TO FOCUS ON IMPROVING ZAMBIAN LIVES

  4. We have another formidable candidate in James Chona son to late Mainza’s Chona.Fisho went to Munali while Janes went to Libala Secondary School. These 2 know Lusaka very well. Now I fond know which Secondsry Schoo Mpondela attended may be somewhere in the remote parts of Chinsali where he was walking without underwear.

  5. A Fisho, congratulations are in order from all progressive loving Zambians upon your declaration to seek the Lusaka executive Mayoralship and help catapult it into a 21st century Afrocentric Capital. The challenges are numerous and no doubt formidable requiring the stewardship of a truly tested and innovative leader like yourself. Like many other Zambians i can only wish you well and have the confidence that you will emerge victorious and put together a totally committed, hardworking ,innovatitive City government accountable to the people. A Fisho it is a crying shame that some people are increasingly defining our national plight at all levels by Tribalistic outbursts that have no basis. Yes, some people are stigmized by it and are fully immersed in it. What they need to learn is to think…

  6. What they need to learn, is to think positive and understand that tribalism is not and will never be a tool of governance. Lets not get consumed by its ugly face and connotation. So people judge the candidates on the true merit of their platform issues rather than subjective negativity. best luck a Fisho !

  7. While Fisho Mwale is a proven candidate for the position having already occupied the office before, what the city needs is new blood so to speak….a James Chona type of candidate to help change the way things have been done in the past.

  8. Don’t be carried away. Fisho uses too much of I did this I that. This is a dangerous starting point. he even tells a lie that councillors won’t be allowed to own land. My foot, it is their human right and not even Fisho can stop them. Ofcourse if it a staright forwad land obtainment why stop them? Afrocentric, what do you mean? Is Lusaka Eurocentric or Sinocentric? I thought it is already on its path to a Cosmopolitan city. Limolimo let us look at the content rather than the face or name of a person. Fisho has said nothing. Its like the time I was young and owning the only football in the compound and everytime I was about to “enter” “ukwingila” mu cibansa as a hopeless sub, everybody cheered. The rest is history.

  9. Common people! When is this trend of recycling people going to end?Elias Mpondela has no integrity;it’s not long ago he was chased with ballot papers in Katondo Street during one election.Zambians surely forget easily. Mr Mwale has had his time. There is nothing new he will bring. You people can’t see that these same people keep coming back running institutions and all they do is cut deals and get richer. These chaps feed off politics.Try other people. I don’t care whether he owns some fish business. Let others have their go.Thats why we are a laughing stock to countries like South Africa.Lusaka needs brilliant minds to change it not these chaps who are talking about markets and bye laws.

  10. From my perspective, Afrocentric is not a mere play of words but a well thoughtout plan with a vision to embark on a clear mission of technical and economic development resulting in a modern hub reliant on African resources. Nothing wrong with that approach. My understanding is that previous councils, thus Mayors lacked the necessary executive powers now accorded them to make much progress and difference. My advice to you Mr sceptic, is you do not have to agree with a Fisho’s vision. Srap on your boots, roll your sleeves and present to us what you can do better. Simple, right? Goodluck!

  11. Afrocentric is a clear term defining a well thoughtout plan with vision for development, application of technology and general infrastructural expansion creating a modern economic hub. Clearly it also has a heavy reliance on local resources as well as manpower.Sounds to me like a viable approach. My understanding is that the executive Mayor has more leverage at his disposal now than previously. Now Ulubunda and Ichishinka, you are right. Anybody can contest and should if they so choose, including you! You do not have to buy into a Fisho’s vision nor do you have to fault him for running a company that provides jobs and progress. The future of his country is his passion and I think for people with that kind of commitment we should be thankful whether its Chona or Sata. Look at the platforms…

  12. FISHO MWALE MUST EXPLAIN TO THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA WHEN HE BETRAYED ZAMBIANS IN VULTURE FUNDS DEAL HE impoverished us through vulture funds .swindled zambians

  13. LETS NOT BE SHORTSIGHTED AND VERY FORGITIVE , DONOT MISLEAD PEOPLE WE DONT WANT RECYCLES WASTE WE NEED FRESH IDEAS THEREFORE FORGET ABOUT FISHO AND MPONDELA
    FISHO -VULTURES SCANDAL
MPONDELA HAS FAILED TO RUN HIS BUSINESS SUWILANGI GARDENS
    MAUREEN – NGO SCANDAL

MANY MANY ISSUES THESE PIPO , I DONT KNOW ABOUT THE OTHER CANDIDATES BUT I THINK KALUMBA HE IS THE BEST AMONG EVERYONE
