The UPND in Kaoma district in Western Province says the party will not be able to attain the much-desired 50 percent plus one threshold in the August 11 polls if it adopts parliamentary candidates who are not popular at grassroots level.

Kenny Ndumba, who is UPND Kaoma district coordinator, says that although the party’s president Hakainde Hichilema is popular, a failure to adopt popular candidates at parliamentary and local government level will impact negatively on the opposition party’s prospects of winning the elections.

Mr Ndumba said that this is because supporters of popular aspirants who will not be adopted may shift their allegiance out of sheer frustration and gravitate towards other political parties which will render UPND’s hope to amass more than 50 percent of the vote a pipe-dream.

He urged the party’s leadership to be wary of unpopular political opportunists seeking adoption as they will cause the party to lose a number of parliamentary and local government seats and as a consequence adversely affect the outcome of the presidential result.

Mr Ndumba said that some people think that they can use their money to bulldoze their way to parliament and the party will make a grave mistake if it adopts such individuals as most of them are not popular amongst the masses.
He said that politics is about numbers and not wealth and it would therefore only be fair and democratic if the people who won the primaries and have the support are adopted otherwise the whole exercise will be rendered meaningless.

Mr Ndumba said that it is illogical to hold primary elections at great cost only to leave out the winners who are in effect the people’s choices at grassroots level and then adopt persons who are evidently a liability to the party.

He said that the UPND district leadership has information that a number of aspiring parliamentary candidates from Kaoma have trooped to Lusaka to solicit for adoption from top party leaders as they had flunked during the primaries.

Mr Ndumba said that Kaoma has two constituencies but from inception the UPND has never won the Mangango seat and this year’s elections provide an opportunity for the party to win the Mangango seat and to return the Kaoma central legislative position.

    • I WAS SURPRISED TOO; ADOPTING MRS SCOT FOR LSK CENTRAL AND GBM’S DAUGHTER FOR KASAMA CENTRAL. THOSE TWO ARE ALREADY LOSSES BEFORE VOTING EVEN BEGAN!

    • It’s not easy a task more in case of a totally theoretical leadership of the inexperienced blutantly hijacked by unpopular political failure migrating with all their garbage to a party they just want to use and takeover.

  1. @Katondo boys! You are a blind supporter of a blind leader, one Edgar Chagwa Lungu! Mulechusha chakolwa alefwaya ukutusha.

  2. Even here in matero they have lost before an election is conducted.they have adopted an ex convict who was convicted after being found with human body parts.he’s a ritualist and fraudster a good friend to kilometre sampa.

  3. I FEAR FOR PRESIDENT H.H. THAT THIS MATTER MUST BE GIVEN ALL THE ATTENTION IT DESERVES AS MOST OF THE CANDIDATES BOUGHT OUT EVEN PEOPLE THAT ARE AT THE GRASSROOTS. THIS WAS RAMPANT IN SP ESPECIALLY WITH SEATING MPs THEN WHO WANTED TO DUPE THE PRESIDENT THAT THEY ARE STILL POPULAR WHEN THEY KNOW IT THAT THEY WERE ONLY DOING IT FOR THEMSELVES. I WENT TO WITNESS THE PRIMARY IN MAPATIZYA AND KATOMBORA CONSTITUENCY. THE INCUMBENTS THEN WERE HEAVILY CORRUPT SOME OF THEM SLAUGHTERING ANIMALS IN THE NAME OF PARTIES THAT WHOSE CAUSE IS NOT DEFINED. I ONLY HOPE THE ELECTIONS CHAIRPERSON HAS AND THE TOP LEADERSHIP GOT WIND OF THIS AND HAVE TAKEN ENOUGH CAUTION. NOW THERE IS THE CIRCUS IN WESTERN PROVINCE TOO. THERE ARE CANDIDATES WHO DID VERY WELL IN CERTAIN CONSTITUENCY NOT INFLUENCING OR…

  4. MUKOSEKO BA UNDER, BA FIDUMBO. YOU LOOK AT ZAMBIAN PEOPLE AND THINK THEY ARE BLIND F00LS, THEREFORE, CAN’T SEE WHAT PF HAS DONE. YOU ARE INSULTING THE PEOPLES’ INTELLIGENCE.

    • you seem very annoyed, wonder why you are where you are if all was well in ZED, just a thought. I believe that for all of us that have had the exposure and have had the privilege to enjoy the benefits of good governance albeit not perfect, should strive for the same for our brothers and sisters in ZED. obviously Mr Lungu is not a good leader and we can disagree on this but anything else than Mr Lungu may be better, think about it. I am sure you have relatives in ZED who are struggling and bet you are sending support home – napwisha

  6. Sota pa privatization how you store and cheated to become rich . . .and sent miners to early graves.. ati messeiah! for tongas.

  7. Mr Ndumba free advise leave them to adopt unpopular `candidates so that we easily attain over 70% target as pf…please worry not yourself…Are you mbunda or mbundu?

  8. Every sensible person will realise that this is not a problem that will be peculiar to UPND only, all parties will get people who will be disgruntled if not selected, therefore there needs to be transparency in the selection process to mitigate for the dissapointment some people will have to face. I dont see why PF has to be excited about this. I see a lot of both PF and UPND people who are failures in their personal lives but when they comment on social media one would think they are very smart people, deal with your own personal failures rather than being champions on social media when you have nothing to point at and are enjoying the democratic systems of other countries. These are the same people who were shouting at how smart Scott was when he was made vice president and now they are…

  9. Don’t complain just because the personal choice has not made it, let majority people’s choice prevail.

Be aware that some people buy their way even in primaries.

Let party leadership be level headed and do their homework right in the adoption process.

The geeater choice is on the presidency to be assured of a properly functional government. The state president, if of integrity, ensures his subordinates function to expectation and uphold high moral standards.

  10. Mr. RB be sensible and realustic. Learn to move with time and uphold facts as presented. If issues are too complicated for your understanding, please either consult those that understand or consider it to be beyond your hanfling and leave it.

An evaluater is not necessarily a seller. HH was not a Managing Director of that company. He was just a small fish sent to carry out a specific task that did not include selling.

If late president Sata, using all investigation wings of gvt found nothing and dropped the issue, what information do yu have that gvt failed to access?
What yu are doing is cheap and outdated politicking.
