A hammer mill operator at St. Antony of Padua Catholic Church in Luanshya committed suicide yesterday within the church premises.
Robert Mateyo a hammer mill operator at the parish was found hanging in a hammer mill house owned by the Catholic Church at around 18:00 hours in Mikomfwa township.
Mr Mateyo’s body was picked around 19:00 hours and his body is lying in Thompson hospital mortuary.
St. Anthony of Padua parish priest Father Clifford Matalayi confirmed the development to ZANIS.
And Father Matalayi said it was shocking that the deceased decided to commit suicide within the church premises.
Police in Luanshya have also confirmed the incident and have since instituted investigations in the matter.
Meanwhile, the 39 year old man of Mpatamato Township who was axed to death by his father on Sunday has been put to rest.
Luanshya acting district commissioner Mwalo Kasemuka who attended the burial of Henry Chirwa at Mpatamato cemetery in Luanshya regretted the incident.
Ms Mwalo further proceeded to visit the father of the deceased, Jaston Chirwa who is still in police custody and will soon appear in court.

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH HAS ALLOWED LUNGU TO USE GOD’S SONGS AND THE POPE IN HIS CAMPAIGN MESSAGES, YET THE BIBLE TEACHES THAT GOD’S NAME SHOULD NOT BE USED IN VAIN. GOD ALSO STATES THAT HE WILL NOT ALLOW TO SHARE HIS GLORY WITH LESSER MORTALS. WHY HAS THE CATHOLIC LEADERSHIP ALLOWED THIS SACRILEGIOUS THING? ISAIAH 42:8: “I am the LORD; that is my name; my glory will I give to another, neither my praise to graven images.” I NEED A CLARIFICATION FROM THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.
“And Father Matalayi said it was shocking that the deceased decided to commit suicide within the church premises” This statement is plain wrong or did he mean it? What was shocking between the man committing suicide or the premises he chose to do it from? This statement suggests that the father is more concerned about the church premises than the life of the individual. Don’t complicate things, just say plainly that it is tragic the man committed suicide, where and how should not be the focus of the church.
To soil we shall all return one day. The avenue is Gods secret.
But that avenue should not be suicide because it is sin and all sinners will go to hell which is not God’s plan.
There is no secret about death. You simply become what you were before you came into existence. And hell exists only exists in the mind of the mislead.
