Letter to MTN Zambia

Dear MTN Zambia,

I wish to express my disappointment at the lack of seriousness of your SIM registration department. I submitted a copy of my ID when the SIM registration law was introduced but I was receiving endless sms messages earlier this year asking me to resubmit a copy of my ID.

On 30th March 2016 at 10:06 Zambian time, I emailed a copy of my Drivers License to [email protected] as your sms messages advised. But then I got a call from one of your employees last week on Thursday 16th June at 12:14 from the number 096612277 telling me to resubmit a copy of my ID (again!) or else my SIM card will be deactivated.

Many people I know have gone through this process of submitting a copy of their ID, even up to 3 times! I told your employee who called me to send me an email address of your SIM registration department so that I forward them the email I sent in March. This is several days later with no word from anyone at MTN.

Sorry, but all this is nonsense. Are you people at MTN specialists in wasting our time? You lost the copy of my ID and now you are even losing emails. If your staff cannot do their job, why should you punish us for their failure to do what they are paid every month for? Why should I waste my time, energy and fuel to come and redo the SIM registration process for the umpteenth time when one of your staff can simply retrieve my email and get the details there?

I shall not redo the SIM registration process again because I have better things to do with my time. You can disconnect me all you want. Your loss, not mine. Besides, I have largely been using your SIM card for internet and now there is a new pretty chick in town called Vodafone.

    • I AM ALSO COMPLETELY DISGUSTED WITH mtn !!!!

As a customer, I expect to be able to use my phone to make MY life easier, instead now I find myself attacked by irrelevant messages that I do not want and never requested. The WORST being SMSs after I have made a call, often when I have forgotten to put my phone on silent (I hardly get any messages) in a meeting and it disrupts the meeting. My colleagues then blame ME!

I seriously consider this an ABUSE of my personal phone number and would SUE MTN if I had the time and money!

    • These guys are a total nuisance. I have just received a message from them telling me that I have 10 days to go before my SIM card is deregistered. They can rot with their SIM card. I won’t do any further registration. My SIM was registered just at the beginning of the exercise. What has happened to their records?

  1. THANK YOU FOR THIS TIMELY LETTER. THIS IS VERY TRUE. WE CANNOT KEEP ON WASTING OUR TIME QUEUING TO RE RE REGISTER AFTER RE RE REGISTERING THROUGHOUT OUR LIVES. WE ARE BUSY PEOPLE AND WE WOULD LIKE TO USE OUR TIME TO DO SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE FOR OUR NATION. (nothing political).

    • I hear its business gone bad with the agents. they didn’t submit the information because they were not paid. however I expected them being in the technology world to divice something like Question and answer format if at all they have a bit of information about us. like Confirm you are Muliokela…….when you confirm it asks about your nrc number and that’s all.

  2. Many MTN messages received requesting ID copy, and many emails with ID copy sent, and these messages keeps on being sent and are really annoying. Hope MTN reads this and sort this out.

  3. Wala! There’s a new pretty chick in town. Ifyakale twaposa. Shibukeni ba mtn, airtel & the dead zamtel

  4. That makes he two of us. I have no time for time wasters. MTN please stop sending me this nonsense and deregister me if you are have nothing to do!

  5. I am a victim of this nonsense. Have re-submitted several times. I will not do it again. You can go ahead and deactivate my sim. #MTN must fall.

  6. Yeah. MTN can go ahead and deactivate my SIM card. They are asking me to do this for the third time. I will not do it this time around. I received an SMS among a lot of unsolicited messages I receive from MTN that I have 22 days. They can go to hell with their crapppy service.

  7. its really annoying, one wonders what they did with all the data they collected. In have physically submitted my details and e-mailed them countless times but to no avail

  8. @ Micheal Chishala you are a Hero Man,Mtn has transformed from being huge net work provider
to a useless network provider, in short from HERO TO ZERO. I thought i was the only one they
are pestering with their endless threats of disconnecting me ,what is surprising me is that i have submitted more than 10 time at their ka outlet in Luanshya. Imagine i have to ask permission from time to time to just re-submit the copies of my ID only for them to text me the following month that your details are not clear, however i have been dancing to their nonsensical tunes,i bet this time they should just go ahead and do as they wish. Hope MTN staffer are reading all these you Guys have posted.
I’m beginning to suspect MTN wants our Grade Twelve certificates aswell

  9. You chaps, listen and listen very carefully. I am not a spokesperson of MTN but will educate you for free. When MTN calls you for reregistration it’s not that it’s always that your ID has issues, there are other things as well. For me, I went to the branch when they called me and they checked in the system and advised what the issue was. And you think if they disconnect you MTN will loose, never. I have to start defending these companies that are simply abiding by the laws from chaps who get excited to abuse innocent companies

    • You are that useless mtn employee or got a relative that does not do their job you lazy chap. You have a chicken brain.

  10. I agree. If you have issues with companies. go to the company to complain, or ZICTA or consumer something, don’t incite other customers through mob psychology ba ngwele imwe. You have a problem with MTN, then you address through Lusaka times, what reasoning is that?

  11. I think this z nothing to do with election-malpractice through ZICTA. Previously wen census was conducted same year with election time where our nationality IDs were submitted, my particulars appeared on the voters register when never had I ever registered for voting in my life. Revelations detailed that even de voter’s card was issued to me which I never got. I don’t know who obtained d card and voted using my particulars. No more should any institution use my personal details for purposes I don’t intend

  12. I am addicted to MTN but now I am almost leaving these useless “dis”service providers. Too many problems amg them unsolicited messages, calls, useless bundles etc. Today I got a msg saying that they had deducted some money for Voice chat…what the hell is that? My anger towards MTN has been building and I have tried to engage them but to no use. I intend to report to CCPC

  13. THIS IS THE WASTE COMPANY BA CASUAL ARE JUST TOO MANY. PUT YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER. I LL NEVER RESUBMIT IF YOU WANT CLOSE AND I LL SHIFT TO YOUR FRIENDS.

  14. I ditched MTN when they refused to reactivate my number, despite verifying my identity, simply because I could not recite three cell numbers that they requested for! On the same day, I spent less that ten minutes at Airtel rectifying a similar problem! The choice is yours…

  15. Same here, I keep getting these reminders even after redoing the whole registration process! In addition, I get on average 5 unsolicited promotional calls and SMSes from them each passing day. In Ndola they have the crappiest network signal – a DRC network has stronger signal than MTN in these parts. I ditched their data service and thinking about ditching their voice calling all together too!
