Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) Member Nelly Mutti has cautioned Zambians not to vote for the national referendum on 11th August, 2016 lest they face the costs, Reports Pan African Radio Journalist Hermit Hachilonde.

Speaking at the just ended Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) Public Fora at the Zambia Institute for Public Administration (NIPA) yesterday, Ms. Mutti said the process is fraudulent and Zambians should not condone mediocrity on pertinent national issues.

She also said the referendum question is riotous and extremely confusing for voters to make informed decisions.

Ms. Mutti emphatically pointed out the need for citizens to make politicians realize that the ballot has the power to appoint governors of a people in a democracy.

“My vote regarding a referendum is NO and Zambians must also vote against the referendum because the whole process is fraud” she said

Mr. Mutti also expressed discontent at some citizens promoting an advocacy in favour of voting for the national referendum when they are alert to the fact that the entire process is spiteful.

“and am glad because the people advocating for referendum have admitted that there are some mistakes” Mrs. Mutti said

  1. Don’t just vote for anybody under PF. How can a PF government come up with such a silly question?
Maybe question can be replaced by:
” Did PF government give Mapezi Chibulo a chance to enjoy Human Rights, under Lungu’s famous constitution?”

    • Do not be dull, the referendum is bigger than PF and the vote should be “yes”. Not even HH is ready to tell his supporters to vote “no” because he knows there are benefits to this document.

  2. But LAZ is an organization of confused lot divided by tribal inclinations and devoid of any iota of professional ethics. How can Belinda Kasonde say YES while Nelly Mutti says NO on behalf of any credible organization? One of them should be disciplined. The Grand Confusion has also said YES while Shonongo has said NO.

  3. This woman!!!!!! OMG! Whats her problem? I feel ashamed when a lawyer of her standing can give such vague reasons on an issue of national importance! Why is she trying to mislead herself and the nation? Behave yourself mayo muli bakulu sana to be uttering such nonsense!

  4. LAZ is disorganised; its president first said NO to the referendum and back peddled to say YES. Which is which coz am getting confused. Whoever is advocating for a NO vote has no heart for Zambia. This country deserves a new constitution and i believe this is an opportunity. There is no country with a perfect law coz not everyone can be satisfied by one piece of legislation. The bill of rights is in my opinion a very progressive piece of legislation which all well meaning Zambians should VOTE YES.

  5. We are voting BIG YES and for President Lungu and PF and this confused kamutti can go and hang. After all, she needs to be deregistered.
It’s time we started scrutinising qualifications of some of the chaps. Where was she all along to just woke up and start hallucinating?

  6. 1)..referendum question is supposed to be simple and straight forward..were any voter understands and knows the consquences of voting either YES or NO..can my uncle in Mutenguleni village understand anything to do with the content of the question..??..
2)…..there is only supposed to be a single question in a referendum…now we have a bill of rights and repealing article 79,,??,,is someone trying to pull a fast one on gullible and ignorant Zambians..??

  7. This clearly shows that kasonde and grand coalition were held hostage by the likes of mutti.
Hope HH is not a victim of such useless and selfish lawyers.
Why didnt you advise ECZ when the question was being fomulated ?
    Vaupuba……
We cant be stuck while you’re hallucinating. There will be amendments as the country and time progress as for now we are starting from this very point.

  8. I am surprised with the learned Ms Mutti. She seems to have joined the lot that has misunderstood. we are not voting for or against the referendum. In the same way that we are not voting for or against the elections. We are voting “in” the referendum. “Yes” to accept constitutional amendments and “No” to do otherwise. (Others also mistakenly think that “Yes” = PF and “No” = Opposition. a serious anomaly).

Ms Mutti might have instead said “Do not vote “in” the referendum. By not voting at all, the referendum fails because there is a threshold that needs to be met for it to succeed.

However, because of the reasons outlined by Ms Mutti (the sham of the whole process), I shall exercise my right not to take part in the referendum.

  9. This lowlife is still there. I thought she went with UNIP. How bitter she looks to be. At her level she says no. What is she after? And if no who will loose a hair in the head. We have lived up to now without it. Even in Europe and America where it exists bad things happen.

    • Nelly Mutti ‘lowlife’? Are you kidding me? Please stop trolling and calling people lowlife when you disagree with them, and perhaps it’s your life which is miserable. I wouldn’t call lowlife, not with her career and rich resume.

  10. We are voting for the on the referendum, whether yes or no, it is our right. It has been over 25 years of commissions and people getting paid allowances to no fruition. Let every Zambian, man, woman and child be represented by a great bill of rights. These commissions can have a seat some where.

  11. Zambias as usual, despising the person instead of constructively critiquing what she said. Nelly Mutti is a reputable lawyer of high standing and you are better off paying attention to what she says. If I’m reading this correctly she is simply saying the process itself is fraudulent and tainted. To be honest there has never been a proper articulation, informed debate on the issue and sensitization to educate the people. Zambia being a country with so many illiterate people, Nelly is right to question the process. Compare this garbage to the 2 referendums that took place in the UK and Scotland recently where almost the entire world knew what was at stake, Ms Mutti couldn’t be any more right.

  12. the opposition UPND allegedly sacrificed its member under the principle of collateral damage to de-campaign President Lungu and the PF led government.
Mr Bwalya says this is evidenced by how the late Mapenzi was followed by a camera prior to her being shot dead.

He said the ruling PF is convinced that the photos of Mapenzi after she was shot were taken by one camera as the technical evaluation of the photos points to this reality.

Mr. Bwalya added that this also explains why UPND president Hakainde Hichilema did not emphasize the need for a thorough investigation to establish the truth but instead accused President Lungu of murder.
