Boxer Muziyo eliminated from Rio Games

Team Zambia’s medal hopes at the 2016 Olympics were cut further when boxer Ben Muziyo exited the Middleweight event in the preliminaies on Tuesday in Rio de Janiero.

Muziyo lost 2-1 to Onder Sipal of Turkey.

The 2014 Commonwealth bronze medal winner lost 29-28, 27-30 and 30-27 over the three rounds.

Muziyo joins Mathew Punza who was eliminated on Sunday from the 65Kg class Judo event in the last 16.

Wednesday will see female swimmer Jade Howard compete in the 100 meters freestyle heats hoping to keep alive seven-member Tem Zambia’s podium hopes.

On Thursday Ralph Goveia will be in teh pool in the heats of the for the mens 100 meters

Stillto come will be 100 meters men’s rep and 2012 Olympics semifinalists Gerald Phiri who will take to the track in the heats on August 13.

Africa female 400 meters champion Kabange Mupopo will take part in two events starting with her specialty on August 13 in the heats.

She will later enter the 200 meters heats on August 15.

Jordan Chipangama will be the last Zambian to start his campaign in the men’s marathon on August 21.

  1. I wonder why Zambia even wastes time sending athletes to these games, its just a waste of everyone’s time and money! I mean, this is more or less like asking Cabinet Ministers to remain in office after the desolution of parliament because it’s a nullity!
