The Ruling Patriotic Front has bowed to demands to have a woman as a candidate for the Position of Deputy Mayor of Lusaka following the move by Nkoloma ward one Councillor and President Edgar Lungu’s Daughter, Tasila, to contest the Position of Deputy Mayor.
In a statement released to the media, PF has decided to field Roma Ward 17 Councillor Chilando Chitangala as the candidate for position of Deputy Media.
According to the statement, the candidature of Councillor Chitangala has been welcomed and endorsed by all PF Lusaka district Councillors including Councillors Christopher Shakafuswa and Tasila Lungu.

Following recent developments regarding the issue of election of the Deputy Mayor for the city of Lusaka and subsequent consultations on this issue which has generated a lot of interest we wish to announce that the PF official candidate for the position of Deputy Mayor for Lusaka is Councillor Chilando Chitangala.
She is councillor for Roma Ward 17 of Mandevu constituency. The candidature of Councillor Chitangala has been welcomed and endorsed by all PF Lusaka district Councillors including Councillors Christopher Shakafuswa and Tasila Lungu.
It is our trust and confidence that Ms Chitangala will receive full support from all Councillors as she endeavours to provide leadership as Deputy Mayor after elections slated for Monday 26th September 2016.

Is there democracy in UPND? Watch the way HH is going to be imposed or impose himself for 2021. All this claim of votes stolen is a deliberate ploy to claim that since he did not lose he should contest the elections again in 2021. We have already heard it from some quarters within his supporters.
At least something close to sanity has happened in PF. I now see Tasila as a great opportunist who just wants to ride on her father’s name. She has come from nowhere and just so suddenly wants to become Deputy mayor? Surely there must be time for maturity in politics!
It’s a year of women. Our young democracy cannot afford to join a culture of male chauvinism characteristic of Hichilema and GBV politics. H.E President Lungu commander of our Armed services in Zambia has illustriously shown us that women are not to be spectators, but centers of national power. Doing otherwise would be reversing the gains of girl child in our democracy. Viva Tasila viva girl child! All women of virtue arise and reign in the frontline. Any woman but not a man to deputize the City Mayor is victory for our democracy.
@Shot Put: It is Tasila who forced this issue and made PF leadership take notice and change their mind. Without her insistence on running, we would have ended up with “wamuyayaya” Shakafuswa again. Now see, the seat has been opened up for a woman. That’s what CHANGE AGENTS do; not get intimidated when they know they are right.

I support president Lungu, but he needs to appoint a new secretary general. Tasila should be allowed her democratic right to stand. No one should run unopposed.
