Share

Zesco United have broken Nkana’s hearts after winning away at Lumwana Radiants on Saturday to beat the Kitwe giants to a second place finish and a place in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup.

Second placed Zesco beat Lumwana 2-0 to finish two points ahead of third positioned Nkana on 72 and 70 points respectively.

Nkana’s also won away at Forest Rangers whom they beat 1-0 at the Trade Fair Grounds in Ndola but it was not enough to overhaul Zesco.

At Lumwana Grounds, it took until the second half for Zesco to score through striker Lazarus Kambole in the 54th minute and defender Bernard Mapili in stoppage time.

Zesco will now represent Zambia in Confederation Cup after their historic 2016 CAF Champions League semifinal finish.

Nkana on the other hand stay home and go back to the drawing board for the new season.

Meanwhile, Nkana secured their victory through Walter Bwalya in the 21st minute who walked away with the 2016 Golden Boot on 24 goals.

Elsewhere champions Zanaco finished the season on 81 points after a resounding 4-0 away win over Nkwazi.

Roderick Kabwe and Aubrey Funga scored a brace each in that match.

And demoted Lusaka Dynamos bowed out with a 2-1 away win over Green Eagles courtesy of a Luka Chamanga brace in the 15th and 48th minutes.

Greenwell Whitaker scored Eagles’ consolation in the 80-th minute.
