Government has started implementing the mortgage financing scheme in foreign missions aimed at acquiring properties abroad.

In his quarterly briefing to President Edgar Lungu at State House today, Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba said the move will help mitigate the financial strain on the treasury.

Mr. Kalaba said government is losing huge amounts of money through the payment of office and staff accommodation in missions abroad.

The Minister said his ministry has developed a draft career foreign service bill and has submitted it to the Ministry of Justice for presentation to Parliament.

On the diaspora policy, Mr Kalaba said the policy once actualised will help bring Zambians abroad closer to the government.

Mr. Kalaba disclosed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs collected six point four million Kwacha surpassing the four point six million kwacha target in fees for the fourth quarter of 2016.

Minister of Gender Affairs Victoria Kalima also presented her ministry’s report to the Head of State.

  1. And yet we have people dying here been stampeded over food. Oh what did we do to deserve this curse called pf. Meanwhile cadres like ndanje and his friends see nothing wrong with the deaths. So disgusting. You will all die painful deaths

    • Na UPND muzakazi mangilila one day ! Here govt is saying its cheaper and cost saving to morgage than pay hefty rentals buy here is some cow herder saying things which dont even make sense

    • This is another scheme to steal from Zambians. We know how these thieves operate. Govt will pay the mortgages but the buildings will be in their private names.

  2. Here we go again.More debt on our heads and more taxes and levies in our pockets! This is fiscal indiscipline of the highest order. Poor boy will kalaba all the way just to please his puppet! For goodness sake, we are in a $10 Billion debt hole! We should be talking about how we climb out of this hole and not talking things that will make an Abys of this Abysmal debt hole! J0kers!

  3. Problem is if you cut relations with that country, they could snatch, the properties. Especially in UK where Embassies have been refusing to pay Parking charges for a while now! Be careful if embroiled in legal conflicts Zambia can lose out. Otherwise seems a good idea to cut costs and not give away wealth to rentals.

  4. You should be cutting the number of usless PF caders on holiday posing as embassy staff.

Some forigne missions and staff are usless and are just a drain on reasources. They are just there as cader and blulu rewards for PF.

  5. Recall half of your caders and realatives posing as embassy staff in forigne missions.

If you say those numbers are needed employ the highly educated zambians already living in diaspora. No need for rent.

  6. KAUNDA HAD BOUGHT AND BUILT PROPERTIES FOR GRZ BUT CHILUBA SOLD THEM. OTHERS GRZ PROPERTIES COULD NOT BE TRACED.
PF HAVE TOO MANY WORKERS IN THE ZAMBIAN MISSIONS AND THEY ARE THEY ARE PAYING THESE WORKERS TWICE. FOR EXAMPLE YOU MAINTAIN YOUR ZAMBIAN SALARY AT THE SAME YOU ARE PAID ANOTHER £4000.00 FOR WORKING ABROAD. ASK BEATRICE MUKUKA AT ZAMBIAN EMBASSY IN LONDON WHERE SHE IS BUSY INFECTING PEOPLE WITH HIV.

  7. Yes it is all talk no work why don’t you sort out what’s causing people to die for biscuits and sweets?

  8. WHAT REPORT DID DORIKA VICTORIA KALIMA PRESENT TO LUNGU THE MINISTRY WAS JUST CREATED AND SHE HAS NOT BEEN RAPED YET TO DEMONSTATE GBV

  9. Dilemma is people dying in stampedes and government talking irrelevant issues. # bring back the whites to rule us
