Share

A beautiful site we will not be seeing this year. The Nalikwanda royal boat sails on the Baroste flood plain after leaving Lealui during the 2011 Kuomboka ceremony

April 8th 2017 has been set as the date for the 2017 edition of the prestigious Kuomboka traditional ceremony of the Lozi speaking people of Western Province.

The ceremony which is a big tourist attraction is held to mark the shifting of the Lozi King Litunga from his traditional palace in Limulunga to the day parts in Lealui.

The last time the ceremony was held was in 2012.

Low water levels on the Zambezi plains and the death of the Queen have been officially blamed for the hiatus.

The date for this year’s ceremony was announced by Induna Mukulwakashiko yesterday.

He further said the “Nalikwanda” will carry 180 Paddlers making it the biggest ever.

The Nalikwanda’s previous capacity was 120.

Induna Mukulwakaahiko further said that interested Paddlers must see and register themselves to Mutwaleti and those chosen will undergo rehearsals to revamp their paddling skills.

  1. The ceremony which is a big tourist attraction is held to mark the shifting of the Lozi King Litunga from his traditional palace in Limulunga to the day parts in Lealui. REALLY?

    • Totally disgusting! That’s the Kufuluhela ceremony, not Kuomboka. LT why not use people who know what is going on to fact check your stories.

    • So simmering dissent by some quarters in the BRE has caused some ripples as demand for accountability around the Litunga escalate! Power of the people and the Litunga has caved!

  2. Welcome back Kuomboka ceremony! Lusaka Times you should be carefully editing and checking your articles and news items before posting them.

  3. With the poverty and tyranny under pf these ceremonies are losing their importance and we are now seeing a reduction in tourists due to fear of lungus dictatorship

  4. Why not just drive? There is a tarred road right from Lealui up to Limulunga. Why risk lives for nothing. Times have changed and such acts are mere symbolic.

    • You should have asked mpezeni the same question, why not just put on jean trousers than depleting animals, why not just go and buy one nice juicy liver at zambeef than spearing cruelly an animal in public, that’s barbaric.

  5. PLEASE ZAMBIANS: Let us learn to be civil with each other. Instead of condemning LUSAKA TIMES, provide them with the correct information. Aren’t we Zambians tired of fighting all the time? Or has the SENEGALESE JUJU been left behind to stay on in Zambia!!!

  6. Lozis should consider doing away with that colonial attire the Litunga wears during the Kuomboka. A king reduced to an admiral in that suit.

  7. If I was Imwiko Mwanang’ono, I would buy me a life jacket kakuli kuomboka wa munomwaha konji ka buyowane bulena Kaongolo ka Nyambe, ka atezwi ki bukuba ni bundalabangwana ahuku!
