By not following procedures, by abusing state institutions (the police, courts, intelligence services, ZRA, his advisors etc), the opposition feel aggrieved and are reacting. Personally, I believe the Petition and the refusal by the President to listen to the UPND on the matter is what has brought this tension in the country – Sadly.

Any Dialogue to resolve the Political Impasse must address the Petition. Lungu’s notion that he can solve his illegitimacy problems by jailing the Petitioners to recognize him will not work. The arresting of HH , charging him for Treason and imprisoning him after the Police raided his home and looted it has raised political Tension in Zambia. By so doing Lungu has set Zambia on fire. The problem here is UPND for for the fact that they have failed to accept defeat after almost one year post elections. HH did not loose alone, there were many other opposition leaders who lost yet they have accepted and moved on. HH is a danger to democracy. What was difficult in giving the way to president motorcade? Instead of just giving respect to the head of state he brings in competition. That is stupidity at its highest level with serious consequence. If the security wing had fired on HH people would be blaming ECL.
