Luano district is this year expected to record an unprecedented bumper crop, contributing to the National expected yield of 3.6 million tons of maize.
Giving a weekly update to the National Agricultural Information Services (NAIS) in Luano,Seedco Mkushi Regional Sales Manager,Kalunga Chabafimbi explained that the farmers in the district have worked hard despite the earlier challenges of Army worms in the district.
He further explained that this was a great achievement despite challenges of limited technical farming skills, capital, and adequate mechanisation.
Chabafimbi told NAIS that good rains, hard work, peaceful environment, and the availability of good quality hybrid seed, coupled with good policies from government were the major driving force in the achievement.
He thanked farmers for attending field days in the district and pledged to continue giving technical knowledge and linkages to farmers in the district.
Meanwhile the District Agricultural Coordinator (DACO), Roy Kalipenta has urged farmers to attend Agricultural shows at both Block and District level in the months of May to August so as to obtain information they require to transform their farming enterprises from traditional farming approaches to new practices that deliver sustainable growth and become successful.
