Some opposition UPND supporters on Thursday staged a protest at the party secretariat and stripped off as a form of protest at the incarceration of their leader Hakainde Hichilema.
The protestors mostly women exposed their breasts and underwear and displayed placards reading “Zambia is not a police state, release HH now!”
Other placards read “We say no to police brutality. Lungu, stop the dictatorship, Free HH”.
The protest was characterised by songs and dance and Party National Chairperson Mutale Nalumango and Mazabuka Member of Parliament Garry Nkombo addressed the protestors.
The protesters attempted to continue their protest at the Freedom Statue, but were forced back by armed police officers who were keeping vigil at the venue.

Human Rights does not mean that one has to be unlawful. What you leader did is uncalled for. If he is let loose it means that who ever the president is in Zambia, no one should stop any driver from driving alongside him/her.

What is amazing is I went through town yesterday, even as far as woodlands and Ibex. On my way back I came through Alick Nkhata and Mutendere/Kalinga Linga. In all these areas shops were operating normally and people were in full shopping mode. Zambians are getting used to the idea that real freedom is about hard work and there is no time for relaxing; China and other countries succeeded through hard work. After my rounds I settled down with colleagues and family for some chilled heineken. So what is surprising is how come it is only this small group of people protesting while the rest of the country is going on normally???? THE POSITIVE ATTITUDE I SAW IN ZAMBIANS YESTERDAY INSPIRED ME, NOT THIS RUBBISH!! HAPPY AFRICA FREEDOM DAY, MY FELLOW COUNTRYMEN AND WOMEN.

Then they were fighting for independence and now they are asking the courts to free a criminal, murderer, and thief. Shame on them. The protest was not fair because the undressing was not complete and it only affected the POOR PEOPLE in UPND! Why didn’t Nalumango and Garry Nkombo undress as well. If they really meant business all should have appeared as they came on earth so that they just disgrace themselves!!
