President Edgar Lungu says the Inspector General of Police has the responsibility to inform the nation on investigations into the destruction of private and public property recorded in the recent past.
President Lungu says this is because the Police Chief is a custodian of security issues.
He was speaking during an interview with journalists who wanted to know if there are people arrested in connection with the arson cases.
The president has left for Livingstone where he is expected to grace a series of official engagements.
Among the programmes he will attend to is to officially open an International Conference on Geology, Mining, Mineral and Ground Water of Sub-Saharan Africa.
The conference will run together with the International Association for Engineering Geology Africa Regional meeting.
Later, President Lungu will fly to Chief Chikanta in Kalomo District where he will commission the construction of the Dundumwezi-Kalomo road and return to Livingstone on the same day.
On Wednesday, President Lungu will officially open the Association of Power Utilities of Africa 19th Congress hosted by ZESCO before returning to Lusaka.
Ecl you are wise. The IG is there to well inform the nation.

Lungu is really trying to get attention. This is what happens when you know you are holding on to something you do not deserve or were approved. Why is he doing work that can be done by PS and ministers? Lungu is insecure about his presidency (highly questionable). All these development projects but no results. Why is the economy not improving? I think we have some lost priorities here
If HE ECL has already given direction how he wants the investigations to move, what can we expect from the IG? He is busy gathering information that will support HE ECL requirement, in this case, implicate the opposition.
The Best would have been if the IG was also allowed to say something during the press conference, but since it was a one man show, do not expect any sense from the IG.
But if suspects were PF like most marketeers are saying, will Kanganja still announce the culprits?

Why does Lungu have to ‘commission’ or ‘open’ everything – however insignificant? The man is all over the place. What are all those people he appointed for? His ‘Presidential’ travels are much more costly.
If he stays at State House, you are the first people to complain that he is stuck at State House sleeping. He is the Head of State and commissioning projects is one way of mingling with the people.

GRACE? This is a complete misnomer. One does NOT grace his or her official engagement, if indeed it is an official engagement. This is simply because that is supposed to be his or her job. Its like saying each one of us graces our places of work with our presence each day, instead of merely saying ‘reports for work’. Complete nonsense!
And please slow down with the use of ‘grace’ on politicians and use it more on e.g. our Royal Highesses (Chiefs, Kings etc..).
