Various stakeholders who include Chiefs and elected officials in Kawambwa District have resolved to name Luapula Province’s first ever Girls Technical High School after President Edgar Lungu.

The Technical High School is being constructed in Sub Chief Kabanda’s area by China Harbour under the 142 million United States dollars contract for the Kawambwa-Mporokoso road.

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Development Ronald Chitotela says the coming of the technical high school will be a relief to Luapula Province which currently has no technical high school.

Mr. Chitotela says China Harbour is scheduled to hand over the school to government within 24 months.

The Minister has also disclosed that the high cases of early pregnancies and school drop outs are expected to reduce once more girls are encouraged to stay in school.

And Sub Chief Kabanda of the Chishinga speaking of Kawambwa District says the coming of the Girls Technical School is a confirmation that his area is now a priority in government’s agenda.

Sub-Chief Kabanda says in the past, his chiefdom never received any development and the coming of schools and clinics just confirms that President Lungu loves people in rural areas.

President Edgar Lungu commissioned the construction of the 142 kilometers Kawambwa-Mporokoso road last month.

Apart from constructing the road and the Girls Technical High School, China Harbour will also rehabilitate a hospital, build another school and construct township roads in Mporokoso within the 12 months contract period.

    • why not name it after a woman. if it has to be associated with your lungu name, then atleast call it after your wife or your daughter tasila. but let it be a woman please. edgar lungu technical school for girls is contradictory. why cant you see that sure

    • THIS IS GREAT. NOW ZAMBIAN CONTRACTORS SHOULD WATCH AND COPY THE STANDARDS OF THIS SECONDARY SCHOOL. I HOPE THAT IT WILL BE A SHOWCASE TO ZAMBIA. THIS IS GOOD THINKING- COMBINING CIVIL ENGINEERING PROJECTS WITH OTHER SIDE PRJECTS LIKE SCHOOLS IN THIS CASE. THANKS BE TO PF GOVERNMENT.

    • Come on, This is stupid, what the hell a girls school be named after A Man and Crazy EDGAR LUNGU? He is not serious and should have advised to change the Name. These PF boot-licker never stop surprising us. We have so many ladies that have contributed to our country?? Why not the VP then? if you wanted a PF member. Shame on Lungu and shows how selfish he is…

    • I think what @The Prince has suggested is the way to go… Inonge Wina Girls Technical School sounds much better to my ears….!

  1. Don’t even think about it or try please! They will all be very visionless like Lungu.

    Stop it now!

  2. Not even Sata named anything after himself while in office.

But one ECL has vanity in bucket loads!!! The humble one.

  3. madness at its best.why can’t they name it after a freedom fighter? is this the legacy chakolwa chagwa kadansa lungu has been talking about…ushilu weka weka

    • Mulenga just use tonga we’ll understand you. Ati ushilu weka weka. If you’re Mulenga you would have said ubushilu bwekabweka.

  4. the best you can do is naming the school after a successful woman who hied from kawambwa during the struggle of independence or in terms of educational achievements.

  5. Shame these kids will be failing due to the name of the school, sure how do u name a school after some with such a low IQ.

  6. Luapula Province has Musonda Falls Girls Technical School. Its not true that the school to constructed will be the first technical girls in Luapula. Either Hon Chitotela is ignorant or Lusaka Times is reporting false news. get your facts correct.

  7. You would have thought that naming a girls’ high school after an educated and famous Zambian female would have made sense… one way to empower women to be successful is through naming institutions such as this one after a famous and educated Zambian female. They should have asked the women of Zambia to come up with a name, for God’s sake. Some people learn through the art of association and I don’t think one has much positive things to learn from this male character.

  8. Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Development Ronald Chitotela says the coming of the technical high school will be a relief to Luapula Province which currently has no technical high school.

Is that statement true?? what about Kawambwa boys technical and Musonda Girls Technical schools…are they called technical for Fun?

  9. So no research done before planning and no democratic voting over the choice of a girl’ school? It beggars belief!!! Only dictators fantasize about naming places after themselves….narcissists and those with attachment issues .

  10. People i feel would be great to name the school from the following names below just for the legacy and importance of these great women in Zambian History though the list could be long:
    1. Chibesa Kankasa Technical High School
    2. Betty Kaunda Technical High School
3 Julia ”Chikamoneka” Mulenga Nsofwa Technical High School
    4. Salome Kapwepwe Technical High School
    5. Mary Fulano Technical High School
    6. Princess Nakatindi Wina Technical High School
