United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema has said that he is disappointed with media reports quoting Republican President Edgar Lungu Edgar Lungu that his party intend to pull out of the ongoing dialogue process.
In a statement released to the media, Mr HIchilema said that his party is on record as being the first one that called for the dialogue and that the party still maintain the same position.
The UPND leader accused President Lungu and the PF of being on record at several foras where they have rubbished any attempts for Dialogue

WE ARE FULLY COMMITTED TO THE DIALOGUE PROCESS – HH
We have noted with disappointment media reports quoting Mr. Edgar Lungu that we intend to pull out of the ongoing dialogue process.
We would once more like to restate what we have always been saying that as UPND, we are actually on record being the first ones that called for the dialogue and still maintain the same position.
To the contrary, it is actually Mr. Lungu and his PF that are on record at several foras having rubbished any attempts to dialogue.
It is common knowledge that in the past when we called for dialogue, the PF have accused us of advocating for a government of National Unity, something we have never demanded.
We hope this is the last time we shall be restating our position that there must not be any excuse for anyone to walk away from this important dialogue process as it is the only way our country will avoid a repeat of the past mistakes and move forward progressively.
As a party, we are ready for face to face meeting at anytime but all we are emphasising is the need to be genuine in the entire process so as to avoid recurrence of the same negative tendencies once issues have been agreed and resolved.

We know, it was a well-orchestrated and canny response by ECL, to put you in the situation that you become the one to blame for pulling out of the dialogue process. By this reaction, it seems ECL has got you exactly there where he wanted. You should have addressed your concern directly to ECL, you should have punched back to ECL and not turning to media which is informing us, again you are off the mark.

Our dialogue and priorities as taxpayers is roads ,more jobs ,economic growth ,better healthcare ,fighting corruption,clean water and better education.
Obviously, the named are fighting against semi-dictators, and they are seeking an opportunity so they can address the questions and priorities you raised.
In your logic, because of the “endless electioneering”, they should stop to fight for that opportunity?
Are those semi-dictators addressing the priorities you mentioned? Are you for the dictatorial practices or you want the democratic environment to prevail, that is, to ensure the best of the candidate lead those countries? Please, get this, No one is saying ECL should not be the president, all we say is that there is a need for a fair environment. Let the candidates have the freedom to campaign, let the police work for the people including opposition and not work for the ruling party. Are we asking for too much?

Yes Concourt should review it’s erroneous and illegal dismissal and hear the Petition.Concourt is the only authority which can legitimize Lungu’s Presidency by giving him a Validation Certificate. I told one of my business associates that we won’t be drinking together for the simple fact that he is upnd and when you go out he gangs up with other upnd fanatics and we don’t discuss politics because they always break out in frenzies and insult and shout!! My relative’s spouse who is Lozi recently got transferred because she and her southerner friends ganged up at one of the ministries and would insult ECL. Really sad. At one of the mines in NW Province, I befriended one Tonga. One day he asked me which party I belonged to. I asked him the same question and he told me he belonged to Upnd. I told him that since he was my friend I also belonged to Upnd. He didn’t say anything. The following day he came and asked me if I was serious about the answer. Asked why such a question. It is always nice to be humble! Right now in my own opinion I have no one I can count on to be my next president because the people we have now are far from being leaders. The is lack of humility, greediness, self centerednes, self proclaimed saints the list can go on. Someone says I can not mingle with thieves for prayers? How clean are you with your accumulated wealth? Who really has the poor people at heart? When you tall of dialogue or reconciliation you don’t put up conditions… you don’t expect a winner after reconciliation but bridging up. Why are all Past Zambian Presidents scared of signing the death penalties so that all those on death row who committed heinous crimes are executed in the interest of justice. Such a scenario also renders the judges’ decisions of sentencing criminals to death a futile exercise and doesn’t also deter potential criminals in society from committing capital crimes knowing that even when they are sentenced to death they will just serve life sentences and not be hanged until pronounced dead. Furthermore, executioners get paid for doing nothing.
