Wina pleads ignorance over President Lungu’s attacks on judiciary

President Edgar Lungu talks to Vice President Mrs Inonge Wina at the airport

Vice President Inonge Wina told Parliament on Friday morning that she is not aware of the attacks on the Judiciary issued by President Edgar Lungu in Solwezi yesterday.

During the Vice President’s Question and Answer session, Mrs. Wina said he has not read the newspapers and therefore could not comment.

This was after some MP’s demanded answers from Mrs. Wina on why President Lungu could threaten the judiciary by starting that any court ruling that will bar him from standing in 2021 will cause chaos and mayhem in the country.

Mrs. Wina said she was rushing to Parliament this morning and did not have a chance to read the newspapers and could not respond to the question.

President Lungu on Thursday warned the judiciary to avoid plunging the country into chaos by trying to emulate the Kenyan Courts at the expense of peace and by failing to reflect the will of the people in the constitution.

Speaking on arrival at the Solwezi Airport in North Western province, President Lungu re-echoed his availability to contest the 2021 general elections if mandated by the ruling Patriotic Front.

“I want to conclude by saying those people who don’t love peace and freedom will say President Lungu is intimidating the Courts of Law”.

He further said “I am not intimidating you my colleagues in the judiciary, I am just warning you that I have information that some of you want to be adventurous, your adventure should not plunge us into chaos please!” He cautioned.

“there is an old English quote which says ‘forewarned is forearmed.’ We don’t want to plunge this country into chaos because of trying to imitate what is happening elsewhere, we have been a beacon of peace, freedom, justice and liberty, let us keep it that way.”

    • That statement alone is in itself an admission of incompetence by the Vice President. The president’s statement was made on Thursday during the day. ZNBC the National broadcaster carried that statement in their prime time news at 19:00 hrs, yet the Lady can stand in parliament and say I did not read today’s papers.
If the gov’t functions as any normal govt should (debatable in PF’s case), the Vice President receives briefings every morning similar to the ones given to the president, including on what she would face in parliament.

    • Ancient being still awaiting for news from hardcopy newspapers like daily mail and times of Zambia should be forgiven.

    • Yes its funny but this shows that this senior citizen isn’t a genuine person. Luke 6:44,45 says “For each tree is known by its own fruit. Indeed, people do not gather figs from thorn bushes, or grapes from brambles. The good man brings good things out of the good treasure of his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil treasure of his heart. For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.” God have mercy on her.

    • All Ye petty Zambians. nit picking and whining all day long about what ECL is doing? What are you doing with your life?

    • The vice-president didn’t read the papers or get a briefing from some henchman? She is just simply scared of the ruthless “humble” chap. He is learning very fast to take advantage of the docile population.

    • “Mrs. Wina said he has not read the newspapers and therefore could not comment”

This Old Hen Bo Inonge should not be that position…I doubt she knows what time it is.
We are in autopilot till 2021 ..unfortunately the plane is using too much jet fuel.

    • Just yesterday namugala said govt won’t operate based social media reports, then the ancient relic comes out today right in front of namugala in Parliament and informs the house she can’t comment because she has not read newspapers. Aaaah, NICE.

    • I’m with 1.3 @The Armchair Analyst. This woman is old and incompetent. What irks me more is that she has become a liar as well! She always has to mop up after Jonathan. She is the Jonathan whisperer, kikikikiki.

  1. It appears that Putin got it all wrong when he though his friendship with Trump would warm up. We now know he was wrong because Elon Musk doesnt believe Artificial Intelligence will turn out to be a benevolent technology.Coming to the issue at hand, life on Mars will be unbearable and those astronauts who want a one way ticket would be better off asking the vice president about this.

  2. Bo Inonge, if you also depend on newspapers to know the happenings around your boss, then it’s very SAD. Probably you did not even know where he was coming from when welcoming him at city airport!!

  3. We did well when we voted against leaving ICC because Africa still have plenty of candidates for that court.

  4. The President is better off heeding the advice that the people sorrounding you at this time won’t be there for you. One day you’ll be alone.

    • Only njimbu watches deadnbc even mama is tired of the same song president ed, first lady news items, am sure mama has even got herself a ka gotv decoder and has been imbibing on tuma bollywood movies, can’t even follow her boss on deadnbc.

    • Please bear with gogo Wina she is “in people”, she will comment when she gets to her destination, yaba network in Parliament is baaaad

  5. Correct me. I thought that RB was stopped by the courts because he had won a half term left by LPM and a full one of his own. Lungu won an election to complete a term left by MCS and has since [WON?] a full one of his own. Why would the same court discriminate between two Nginis?

  6. I sense an element of trying to deny this story by VP.
This is why online news media, including LT, must do evidence-based reporting. i.e. Used the current technology by putting video clips. Learn from seasoned news media like CNN. Where is the video clip???? This is too serious an issue, we do not want ‘he-said-she-said stories only.

  7. Hahaha that’s why I like the madam honor Wina very intelligent. Ni you can’t see me capwa and the story will not come back again…. Thank you honor Wina.

  8. Leave Bo inonge alone. The president was just advising some judges not to dance to anyone. Why do you want to create a big issue over an advise..?

  9. Madam Vice President doesn’t know what’s happening in her country, she doesn’t know what her boss is doing.

    Clear lies.

  10. keep on insulting and passing hate speeches , 2021 elections PF is winning,Tongas and upnd you have failed to impress non Tonga tribes, especially Bembas and Ngonies at large, we know what this tribal party can do.The problem is that Tongans and upnd have genetic hatred for non Tonga tribes . Those saving in judiciary as long as they belong to Tonga/ upnd will always wish the death of ECL and PF at large. Their hatred is very unspeakable,

  11. Zambians learn to be good listeners and researchers before you comment on issues. The posting is not only wrong but misleading. The V/President told parliament that its the Presidents responsibility to preserve peace as the back stops at him. She said he was merely advising another arm of government to act responsibly and not copy cat without evaluating implications. In short the V/President responded as opposed to the story here.

    • You are right, I listened to clip on Phoenix news, what has been reported here is not what Mama Wina said in Parliament. She was very tactful and did better than the man who actually uttered the words 🙂

  12. VEEP trying to be tactful….mmmh but not with what was clearly read out on National TV. Even Stephen Sucker at BBC studios heard it to include it among his interview questions if ever ECL makes the mistake of thinking he can outshine HH on HARDtalk. Mukose 2021..ati ndeiminina nakaili, ensha tumone mambala nga ukapita. Nibanga baenshapo…this is not Zimbabwe nor Uganda. Just focus on the tasks at hand mune.

  13. Yaba! ZO-ONA NI CHIPANTE-PANTE GOVERNANCE!
PF officials can’t differente their own @rses from their elbows.
What the drunken headman says, his ndunas are totally oblivious.
Zambia being ruled via auto pilot!
HOWEVER WHEN IT COMES TO FLYING AIMLESSLY, & PLUNDER, P.F, ARE VERY COHERENT!!

  14. The President was just advising the judiciary not to copy things blindly. Look at what happened in Kenya, we do not need such actions just because some moron somewhere want to become the president.

    • What happened in Kenya after the nullification of the result? There was more chaos last time judicially was biased than this time around.

  15. When some one does not have the intellectual capacity to debate with colleagues, one tends to use intimidation as a means to get what he wants. But violence always begets violence. Ba careful PF, lest this violence you like to use on people, turns around and hits you.

  16. Dr Chaos Theory VERY Uninformed comment from a kangaroo doctor from southern province, focus on the topic a hand badala kuziima

  17. I hate Lungu with passion and I am from Eastern Province. Lungu is taking Zambia to dangerous territories that will lead to bloodshed never seen in Zambia’s history. The Chinese, corrupt Europeans and Indians that are looting our resources are busy squeezing Lungu’s balls and as such he is letting this so called investors loot my country without him stopping them. Humble guy turned dictator now wants to change the constitution so that he and his corrupt inept ministers can continue to loot from poor Zambians. Enough is enough. Lungu has to be locked and the keys thrown into the Atlantic Ocean.

  18. HATE OR LOVE HIM ECL IS THE BEST PRESIDENT ZAMBIA HAS EVER HAD , EASTERN POWER IS NO JOKE WE HAD RB WHO WAS A JOKER NOW WE HAVE GIVEN U TOUGH TESTED ECL , SOFT DICTATORSHIP IS THE WAY TO SPUR DEVELOPMENT INFACT FOE NOW ECL MUST INSTIL FEAR TO POLICE THEY NEED TO WHIP ANY COCKROACH WITH IMPUNITY WHO SHALL BE LOITERING THE STREETS AIMLESSLY, DAY AND NIGHT TIME. WE HAVE ALOT OF PIPO DOING NOTHING IN THE STREETS WE NEED TO QUIZZ THEM AND MENYA PAMATAKO PEKA PEKA

  19. You are just wasting your time and resources by fighting HE ECL. SITIZAMVELA ISE NI PABWATO CHABE, NAFUTI NAFUTI 2021. We will die or kill for Lungu. ECL will kolopa them even if they gang up with the BBC, CNN, IMF, judiciary, LAZ & Commonwealth fimofimo. No one can fight the will of GOD!

  20. The UPND uses Raila Odinga and Musi Maimane as role kikikiki
The UPND morons can’t inspire any true African.
6.5 provinces are warming up to deliver the last blow that will knock out religious tribalism from the south.

  21. The UPND uses Raila Odinga and Musi Maimane as role models kikikiki
The UPND morons can’t inspire any true African.
6.5 provinces are warming up to deliver the last blow that will knock out religious tribalism from the south.

  22. Lungu/Wina PF govt is run thru the newspapers ? Incompetence ,ignorance and uncoordinated no wonder Zambia is heading backwards. We need to hire the Kenyan judiciary to save us.

  23. It was not an attack! It was a warning for those who are lax and like to sleep with UPND a party of fires and destruction.

  24. bum licking her boss . African politicians . where do we get these lemons from.. same everywhere . they don’t want to leave power.

Pretend ignorance is the best way to rule ..,.Madam

  25. The comments by the President as quoted in the article above are when viewed objectively timely advice to the judges. Its true that many praised the Kenyan judges for the nullification of their elections but true to the Presidents warning is the result of chaos. Who now can say it was good to remove Gaddaffi in Libya. Sometimes slow gradual change and improvement if more desired than drama that just leads to chaos. Its wiser to live another day and fight on having achieved only a step. The president expects the judges to rule wisely and not behave like “nayifwa we can- (imitating Kenyan judges). The judges must be warry of what some call courage when in fact it is a sheer lack of wisdom.
