Share

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Joseph Malanji wishes to inform the nation that at the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia, His Excellency Mr. Joáo Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola, will undertake a State Visit to Zambia, from 2nd to 3rd May, 2018.

Zambia and Angola have enjoyed warm bilateral relations which date as far back as the liberation struggle and the Angolan civil war, during which Zambia hosted Angolan refugees and facilitated the signing of the Lusaka Peace Protocol. The two countries have ongoing joint projects and bilateral agreements in various sectors of economic and social development.

The Visit of the Angolan Leader therefore presents an opportunity to further enhance the bilateral relations by reinvigorating cooperation and also for the two leaders to discuss other areas of mutual interest such as peace and security in the region given that Angola is the current Chair of the SADC Organ Troika whilst Zambia will assume the Chair of the Organ in August, 2018.

The two Heads of State will hold Bilateral Talks and witness the signing of bilateral agreements in various areas. In addition, the Heads of State will officiate at the Zambia – Angola Business Forum.

Angola is a key strategic partner to Zambia in the Patriotic Front Government’s quest to deliver development to the Zambian people, as articulated in the Seventh National Development Plan especially in the areas of peace, security, trade, oil and gas, transport and infrastructure development, to mention but a few.

The Zambian Government recognises the importance of collaboration with Angola, the rest of its neighbours and beyond, in the shared aspiration for sustainable development and the attainment of regional peace and security.

In the same vein, the continued high level visits to Zambia are evidence of the significance attached, by other countries, to engagement with Zambia in pursuit of developmental and other aspirations.

His Excellency the President will, therefore, continue to engage with his counterparts, the world over, to ensure that a conducive environment for Zambia’s developmental aspirations is maintained on the international arena.

  1. Zambia will soon explode says hh to the foreign media. Meanwhile we have witnessed a lot of foreign investors trooping ti zeb as a safe zone for business.

    • Yes, Hakalusa Hagain is right in a sense. Yes, Zambia will explode with investment, prosperity and goodwill from all well wishers.

      Sancho …

    • Tell President Laurenco to facilitate repairs to the benguela rail line. Shortest rail route to the ocean

  2. There he goes only last week he was in Angola for a meeting…Zambia needs a serious man at the top not this laaaaazzzzzyyyy dingbat!!

    • Hatred at its best. A number of Heads of State meet in Angola. Or wasn’t only ECL. Blog intelligently and not with ignorance please.

    • So why is he going back again for two days ….look at the leaders off RSA and Botswana do see them spending more than 24 hrs on their visits in Lusaka? No..as they have important things to attend to not dancing on the airport tarmac and sight seeing.

    • Hatred makes people blind to facts. E C L is not going to Angola but receiving the Angolan President. I am sure some people are not happy to see ECL being recognized by foreign Presidents. People accept ECL is president whether we like it or not.

    • Yes, noted thanks..but we all know Lazy Lungu will follow Angolan leader everywhere night and day..I dont hate anyone ..I dislike incompetent lazy corrupt people like Lazy Lungu.

  3. what value is this visit please. just greetings, state dinner, can we sort people who are starving in rural areas first before we start spending money on these state dinners

    • The man is lazy …he thinks a President putting on a blue overall and sweeping the street is hardwork …Rwandan President has sorted out the economy first; he was trying to copy.

  4. Angolan president is gonna be shocked by filthy Lusaka land of cholera and roadside vending shacks courtesy of PF leadership.

  5. Empty tins sound louder. So you expect Lungu to be picking your litter you throw, for you to appriciate him? Its strange to see how, some people can condenm their government all the time. Tell us what you will or can do differently. Condemning the goverment is not the solution, take this as an opportunity for you to show case what your talent, than talking ill of your own country. Show us what you are made of, than being an armchair critic day in day out. knowledgeable people give solutions and try to work around existing problems to find a lasting solution rather than condemning everything all the time. it shows us that you are equally ignorant of what is supposed to be done.

    • Bitterness is a cancer, it’s got no cure, chemo just makes the patient short tempered. Don’t worry about them.

    • Criticizing Lazy Lungu’s leadership is not hating ones country…Zambia is not Edgar Lungu…Presidents come and go …its what they do that matters when they are there!!

    • @5, You could not have put it better than some of these self proclaimed masters degree holders lol

  6. Jab…potentially Angola is the largest economy in Africa. Because of the population Nigeria. Infact Angola is at the same scale as DRC. Their economy is hugh.
With well structured and managed relationship Zambia stands to benefit immensely at all levels. For eg we can be exporting our human capital and things like commodities and make a significant contribution to our national kity.
Let’s help our government in creating and activating an enabling environment for business.

  7. I have forgotten what UPND says they will do when elected to form government. Oh sorry! They don’t really know what they want to do but they want to get into power at all costs. As my history lecturer used to put it: if you want to know the future of a country, look at the quality of opposition leaders (alternative governments!). We are in trouble!

  8. Tell President Laurenco to facilitate repairs to the benguela rail line. Shortest rail route to the ocean

  9. states visits are now a global strategy of economic growth. How many presidents did Trump receive in the past two weeks?
