Government in the process of formulating database on Churches in the country

a moment of prayer

Government says it is in the process of formulating a church database to ascertain the number of churches operating across the country.

Ministry of National Guidance and Religious Affairs’ Assistant director for religious policy and dialogue, Ellen Moyo said the ministry is going round the country to collect data and take stock of all the churches in provinces and districts.

The country has witnessed a number of churches being formed across the country since the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation in 1991 but the exact numbers are not known, Mrs Moyo said. She was speaking in Solwezi today when she called on Northwestern Province Permanent Secretary Ephraim Mateyo at his office.

“ The ministry is also making consultations from the church on what should be contained in the national guidance and religious policy that the ministry is trying to come up with for regulating churches, “ she said.

She said the ministry is also collecting information on church historical sites that are found in the different parts of the country so that they can be preserved because they are important to the country.

And Mr. Mateyo said there is so much misinformation on why the ministry of national guidance and religious affairs was created that needs to be cleared.

He said there is need to give people clear insight on why the ministry exists because some think the ministry was created to give money to churches to improve them and their operations.

  1. This is what happens when you have this utterly pointless Lazy Lungu creation called Religious Ministry….they have nothing to do so thinking of what to do, they are looking to control no wonder these churches are all compromised…why should you create a data at that ministry when the Office of Registra and ZRA have details already??

  2. This is a failed project. Evidently they have no clue what to do as you see from formulation of things after the fact. Pathetic. Matter of fact aren’t churches supposed to be registered with the registrar of societies or something like that? WTF is going in in Zed kanshi?

  3. Deregister all churches registered at PACRA, let them do it under the Societies Act with the Registrar of Societies. We have enough laws to regulate churches and other societies registered under the Societies Act. The problem is that you’ve allowed churches to be registered as companies with 2 subscribers and all they do is file annual returns with PACRA

  4. The most notorious are the Pentecostals because they don’t even have a code of conduct nor any moderator. Even their mother body the EFZ is just a 2 man institution, Pukuta Mwanza and John Imakando. Others have also founded their own mother body. It was embarrassing how they failed to come up with a position when Daniel Pull went on a marrying rampage. You need to control those whose activities are alien to Zambia or are ultra vires the Constitution

  5. Another ploy by (P.F. aligned Men & Women of Gold), to justify pocketing huge sums of tax payers cash, whilst stuffing their swollen bellies, & placing human hair on their scalps to intensify their beauty, of course all the while, NOT HAPPY WITH THE BEAUTY “GOD” GAVE THEM.
How hypocritical this whole God Industry.

  6. They want to start collecting registration fees and they have to to maintain the database. But what about non-Christian worship groups? Do they also qualify s “churches” ? It would be unfair to load it on general taxpayers some of whom subscribe to no religion.

  7. Ba Ellen Moyo, really? Surely the Churches register somewhere before they begin operating. Or do they? This is so basic.
