Local Government Minister Vincent Mwale has revealed that the sale of Kalingalinga Police Post in Lusaka was done within the law.

Responding to heavy criticism over the sale of land where the police post is located, Mr Mwale said the Lusaka City Council passed a resolution to sanction the sale.
He said the current Police Post will be demolished and a new and improved police station will be constructed.

Mr. Mwale confirmed that the developer who has bought the land will construct a shopping mall and move he police post to a new location.

He however confessed that government is helpless when it comes to dealing with private developer who wish to set up shopping malls.

“I share your view on malls, they take the place of our people who survive on tuntembas (mostly women) but how far can we go stopping the private sector who own private land from investing in malls, maybe we should think more of what we need to do to have Zambian products in these malls,” Mr. Mwale said.

He added, “the police post in Kalingalinga has served people well thus far, according to LCC the proposed one will be bigger and better, it will be constructed before this one is demolished making sure people don’t miss a day of police services.”

  1. What is the noise all about it. This is development. The place must be developing, no one is being displaced

    • At this rate, Lusaka will have more malls and people.

I just hope no brown envelopes were involved. There is too much corruption in our country. Every government official wants to be just like Lungu. And we all know that is NOT a good thing.

    • It’s disheartening to see some people object to development. Why would anyone want to hold on to Police Post like 1 in picture? Such squalor conditions need to be eliminated throughout Zambia & give people more dignified services including proper police posts & services, hospitals, clinics, roads, schools etc. That’s main reason we have govt & masses will always appreciate this. People who complain don’t even live in these communities with majority poor who are receiving & experiencing development for 1st time since independence. Upliftment of lives of people especially poor is Godly & I encourage & want to see even more of this. God Bless Zambia

    • Just wondering with the council itself is not issuing statements and communication ??? The deputy mayor is there and their PR and communications are not dead I believe. I am really wondering why Vincent has been in the forefront issuing statements and defending this sale ??? This smells PF deal all over

    • just demolish that legal structure, Instead of demolishing people’s housed like chi Lusambo was doing.

    • @IndigoTyrol.
When we use a comparative, the conjunction is ‘than’ not ‘and’. ‘More malls than people.’ Ask Lusaka City Council to sell you English lessons kkkkkkk

  2. The uproar appears to be around the symbol of the Police Post. I suppose it will be logical to actually put up the new Police Post even before clearing land for the Mall happens. This is the timing we miss most times, especially when the arrogance of politics takes hold. So while the law has been observed, let’s give thought to perception. It is potent. Kingdoms have fallen just from perception and it is still happening in its modern form in so many different scenarios.

  3. the land purchased is the one where mayela night club is,which is private property and the deal was between the woner and the developer and then the developer saw it was too small and decided to buy off the other houses around and land where the police post is which is also private land, thats why no station was ever built but just a community post. so i see no problem its not like the bought where central police is. so alot of shops have been built along alick nkhata road and i wonder why we are making so much noise.

Secondly those asking for factories ,you honestly preferred mayela to a mall ? cause when Mayela was there no one complained but now instead of a night club we have a cleaner development you oppose ,muladawisha sana.

  4. A lot of pipo talking about what they understand a little .
Be ready, the Lusaka you know will be history by 2021.
No amount of resistance to change will survive with a progressive President we have.
Chamubaba that Kalingalinga will have a better police post should remain in the diaspora.

    • where is the land to build the new police post since the whole Lusaka land is in pipo’s hands.think twince

  5. This must be moved to Namwalaland on HH’s property and UPND will be very happy with this structure. Let us develop this “thing” he stands no chance in 2021. We shall send him to retirement. Watch this space!

  6. When Mary poured expensive perfume on the Lord Jesus Christ’s feet and wiped her hair with it, Judas Iscariot complained that this perfume could have been sold and the money given to the poor! The reality was that this guy used to help himself with the cash! “They could have first built another police post!” Blur, blur, blur!

  7. Much as I wouldn’t want to say ‘no’ to the so-called development, I think Zambia is becoming an extended province of South Africa or China. The buyer of that land must be from one of those two countries. The government is busy turning or converting us into a shopping rather than a producing nation. South Africans have continued killing us and their other neighbours in the name of xenophobia for the love of their country. Can you imagine my brothers or sisters delivering copper from Zambia to some port in SA being torched because that job should have been given to an SA! Can you imagine that? Yet, they come here to grab our land as investors and we welcome them. Which Zambian has bought land in China or invested in the Chinese economy? I pray our leaders will not wake up one of…

  8. The key is to look at the long term view and to trully start loving each other and care for each other’s welfare as Zambians. Where will all the people that are being moved out of Kalingalinga go? development my foot! They will be a time when all the Zambians will move out of Lusaka because they cant afford to live in the city, in fact its already happening. How many shopping malls per square mile does one need? especially in a country were our monthly salaries don’t even stretch to a week. In everything, they must be a responsible thought process, planning for future Zambians is key and a love for your fellow Zambians. Look at Trump, is he saying Zambia first? no, he’s putting his people first. It’s happening in England with Brexit, In Italy. No-one wants another Zimbabwe and at…
