President Edgar Lungu launches the Satelite Television Project at Mbozi Primary School in Vubwi District, Eastern Province

President Lungu has launched the Village Satellite Television Project in Vubwi district, Eastern Province.

The project is part of the implementation of the 10,000 African Satellite Television Project announced by President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China during the forum for China – Africa cooperation held in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2015.

By 2020 China hopes to to have reached 10 000 villages in 25 countries in Africa.

President Lungu said the village satellite television project is one of the significant symbols of friendship between the people’s republic of China and Zambia in particular and Africa in general.

500 selected villages, schools and other community centres across the country will receive the village satellite television sets.

President Lungu lauded this as a remarkable development and a milestone in the PF government’s unwavering commitment to bringing information, education and entertainment services closer to the people than ever before.

“It is a well known fact that lack of amenities in rural areas contribute negatively to development. This scenerio equally applies and contributes to increased vices such as early marriages, alcohol and drug abuse, teenage pregnancies among others.I am confident therefore, that this project will greatly promote togetherness among the people, not only to be informed, but also to afford them an opportunity to be educated through various programmes and at the same time be entertained,” he said.

President Lungu further directed the the Ministers of General Education and Information and Broadcasting services to work together to ensure that the education services channel is operational within the shortest period of time. He said this channel would tremendously help in the delivery of education services in rural areas.

President Lungu also issued a directive to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting services to ensure that the Zambia News and Information services (ZANIS) and Parliament channels are enhanced with developmental news and information. This, he said is aimed at ensuring that the numerous projects that government implements are communicated to the people without fail.

President Lungu said the community in Vubwi will not be told what is happening in Lusaka but will rather be kept abreast with events in Vubwi and pupils will learn parliamentary proceedings.

He explained that government is spending millions of kwacha on the digital migration because the PF government believes that people can only make informed decisions, if they are well informed.

  1. Excellent way to spread Chinese propaganda to the remotest villages in Africa. Well done China -our new colonizers!! Done with such finesse that the African presidents believe China is doing this to help develope their impoverished countries. In 15 years Mandarin will be the official language in Africa and Africa will continue being conquered.ALUTA CONTINUA

    • Maharaji – our leaders are so naive they never wonder why even Facebook and Whatsapp are not allowed in China…to Chinese Africans are portrayed as apes here we are giving them free access to our kids brains.

    • The Villagers urgently need clean water, free quality education, health & Agric inputs & equipment NOT satellite TV, Malls etc. Their produce needs to be processed near villages to create local employment before being transported to the city.

Vision-less leaders & their blind followers will celebrate satellite TVs, malls.

  2. Why is Zambia getting crumbs instead of real bread?. Kenya got China Global TV studios and 40 storey AVIC Africa headquarters while we get leftovers?

    • That’s because you have utterly dull leaders who are happy to write overpriced loans then give AVIC in exchange for a brown envelopes and football playground in Tasila’s Chawama ward.

    • @Enka yes that AVIC 43 floor building is gonna be a beauty. I wish Lusaka would get such a magnificent complex.

  3. I don’t know the content of tv in Zambia and if this in fact will benefit the children in rural Zambia. there are many projects that I can think of in villages that will benefit the children than tv. the current government seems to not know what real development looks like, they behave like they’ve never been to villages. they like scoring cheap political points when not doing anything in the long forecast. how is a child in a village going to be better of 15 years from now by being introduced to tv now. is his or her life going to up uplifted and better off as a result of this?
i’d rather they look at schools and putting money is simple but functional labs and other equipment for various trades… it’s the same misguided focus you see where they are busy constructing shopping…

  4. What a sad sight indeed…the Chinese brainwashing our children with the approval of fooooolish dull African politicians, they never wonder why Chinese are protective of the media from outside forces. They might as well just right everything on that sign post in Chinese

  5. Meanwhile Tayali has been barred from the nomination ..they might as well just give to the dull Sampa to continue stealing from the docile Zambians

  6. Really laughable …Only our friends from Eastern Province can get away with wearing a red suit and red shirt at a formal occasion!!

  7. Nonsense project just aimed for China propaganda. Why doesn’t China give Zambians clean water project ,better schools or agricultural processing factory?

  8. Africans are destined to be the dullest people on the planet……does it need a Chinese to put up a satellite dish, solar panel , and decoder in a village ?.??

Busy building mansions in swazi and selling mukula in the night….

And lungu stop lying, it is programmes favarable to China that will be down beamed to vubwi…..where is the uplink station and studio in vubwi to make and transmitte programmes to the rest of vubwi ?

  9. This is con by lungu and the chinaman meant to pull the wool over our eyes to justify $270 million digital migration.

Why do you need satellite tv when you are supposed to have digital terrestrial transmitters on towers in all provinces To cover the country ? Were we not told that regional studios are in that cost ?

Now they are giving you a satellite dish , decoder and a solar panel Ati $276 million digital migration ??

    Hehehe but lungu …..nikawalala.

  10. This is a great initiative for Zambia. Every development no matter how little counts. I think UPND will whinny again but they can’t stop people appreciating progress.

  11. Wake up Zambians!! In Vubwi there is Gold and the Chines are practically brain washing everyone here .its not in good faith that they are doing this.I miss King cobra!!!

  12. What we need are industries and decent housing for our people and then the satellite TVs will follow
