The Patriotic Front (PF) and United Party for National Development (UPND) have agreed to resolved to depoliticise markets and other trading places to allow everyone to trade freely.

This follows a meeting held at the PF Secretariat by the two political parties in Lusaka yesterday.

In a joint statement, PF Deputy Media Director Antonio Mwanza said the two parties have agreed to form a steering committee on ending political violence with leadership from both PF and UPND.

He also said that no party will be allowed to transport cadres to various places where by-elections are held as it proved to be a source of political violence.

Earlier, PF National Youth Chairperson, Stephen Kampyongo said it is good to see the PF and UPND come together and resolve to end the perceived differences.

Mr. Kampyongo who is also Minister of Home Affairs called on the youths from both political parties to STOP engaging in violence.

He said the law will not fail to deal with any offender regardless of the political affiliation.

And, UPND Chairlady for Women Affairs Namakau Kabwiku praised the youth wings for taking a step in ending political violence.

Ms Kabwiku said the violence that the country had experienced has not helped build the country but destroyed the image of the country.

  1. Charles Kakoma: This is a waste of time. If they cannot respect Zambia’s laws what chances are there that they will respect a mere agreement that you can’t take to court if they violate its provisions?

    • I totally agree. No need to meet and “depolitize” the running of markets and trading places. You simply interpret the law. What does the law say on the running of markets and other trading places? It is true what other countries say about Zambia. There are a lot of educated fools in this country.

  2. What does the LAW say about the running of markets and other trading places? It is true that this country is full of educated fools. Why waste time by convening political gatherings when you can simply interpret the law? I miss the new deal government of Mwanawasa. That noble government of rules and laws

  3. Window dressing. These two parties dominate parliament and can make laws. Let them pass a law to criminalise cadres in markets and bus terminals. Anyone found collecting money in these places other than local or municipal authorities must be arrested and convicted.

  4. Thumbs up to PF and UPND for this initiative! I know not everyone will be happy with this but I appeal to the peace loving persons in both parties to soldier on with this awesome and commendable development. God bless you guys!

  5. Zambians change your mindsets, you have for long been complaining about violence perpetuated by the two major political parties but now that they have come together to seize fire on violence you want to down play their commitment???? Really!!!!!!!!! Do you enjoy the blood shed in our streets, markets, and bus stops?
Lets support these people and lets welcome the development, being negative about everything doesnt help anyone.

    Thank you

  6. Thugs and cadres from both parties, these are the two most violent parties in Zambia today. Imagine if these people had steady jobs, there will be no need for all this nonsense. Get a life you losers.

  7. Call it what you want this is the way to. I get a feeling that the bosses of UPND are not happy. You cannot hold the nation at gunpoint for your selfish ambitions. I salute this effort and hope for more. Remove tribe and hate UPND can be a good party for all Zambians as was under the late Mazoka

  8. Surprise, why should the public places( Makerts, Bus Station etc) controlled by political parties? These are public, they should be politicaly free for any one to trade. This kind of political administration of public places will lead into chaos which shall never been solved and it will end up in civil war. As we go on with this trend we shall hear that even hospitals, schools and high learning instutions shall be controlled politically which is dangerous. PF and UPND should leave the markets and other places free. Let the marketeers and bus operators, passengers and all associated choose independent leaders to lead the places.

  9. Krushev Mweemba Mwiinde is thief and if found pleasse take to Choma police station and a large reward will be given. This man has stolen from many people his name is tarnished all over the web and in Zambia.

  10. Time to give chance to peace is now. Those who feel like fighting can simply apply to Oriental Quarries to join as boxers instead of fighting battles for other people’s comfort.

  11. Give peace a chance. A huge group of youths depend on Party handouts for survival & will do whatever asked to. It is Party leaders who call the shots. At one time you couldn’t enter a market without a UNIP card. This is how bad political leaders’ dictatorship can be. We need to evolve.

  12. It is true that Zambia has a lot of educated fools. You simply interpret the law on the running of markets and other trading places rather than convening useless meetings. We should be a country of laws, not cadres

  13. I was at UTH, cleaning toilets for doctors and I met a doctor from Namwala. I asked him that does cow dung cause any serious illnesses when it reaches the brain? The doctor answered me, “Yes! If dug is not disposed of the owner of Animo Farm and his tourists can get brain damage or MAD COW DISEASE with symptoms of irritability, anger issues, delusions, Hallucinations and Childish-like behaviours!” I said, “Mmmm! I have seen that!”

  14. The mere presence of Kapyongo (the terrorist) and Antonio Mwanza, the man who stole a chunk of meat from Zambeef), does not give me hope. These two are cow dungs.

  15. The mere presence of Kapyongo and Antonio Mwanza, does not give me hope. Kapyongo is the opposed of peace while Antonio Mwanza is just a cow dung.
