Plans to turn the Military Training Establishment of Zambia (MILTEZ) into a first military university in Kabwe have reached an advanced stage.

MILTEZ Commandant, Francis Kasempa, has announced the development adding that, strides to affiliate courses at all wings with the Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA) are underway.

Brig Gen Kasempa was speaking over the weekend during the MILTEZ Officers’ Annual Ball at Kohima Barracks in Kabwe, Central Province.

He said MILTEZ is tasked with the mammoth responsibility of training not only Zambia Army but also other defense wings and allied personnel hence, the need to improve the course outline.

Gen Kasempa added that, MILTEZ has since engaged in various developmental projects such as poultry, gardening, and aqua-culture among others in a bid to make the unit self-sustaining.

However, Gen Kasempa said in spite of all these added responsibilities, the military personnel will not divert from their major role of protecting the country.

“Our cardinal role is to protect the territorial integrity and constitution of mother Zambia from external forces hence, the need to be conversant with modern training aid,” he said.

He said his command and military personnel in general will remain totally loyal to the government of the day and put their lives on the line to protect the territorial integrity and constitution of Zambia.

Gen Kasempa assured that military personnel at the training school will remain dedicated and stand out as examples of true soldiers, be it in the school as instructors or when called upon for national duties within or outside Zambia.

He also thanked the men in uniform for exhibiting good discipline and leadership in the year ending, saying discipline is cardinal in the military.

Gen Kasempa observed that as a result of total discipline, the military training school has succeeded in attaining the training of men and women in uniform in various fields.

He, however, said the military training school is facing economic challenges of old infrastructure and lack of modern training aid like for counter terrorism which had become rife globally.

Gen Kasempa noted the need to revamp field training and other fighting techniques to conform to modern standard.
