The Public Service Commission (PSC) has clarified that salaries that will be paid to retirees will not be deducted from their benefits.

Speaking during an interactive session with Civil Servants in Katete yesterday, PSC Commissioner Misheck Nyambose said the salaries that will be paid will be the basic salary that will not be deducted from the benefits.

“You will be paid basic salaries that will not be deducted from the benefits and you cannot get a loan on it,” he said.

He said government decided to come up with a salary because it saw the destitution among many civil servants once they retire.

Commissioner Nyambose said the salaries for retirees was constitution and will be executed as stipulated in the constitution.

Mr Nyambose also urged the Civil Service in the district to change their work culture in 2019, as most issues that the service was facing were coming from its own human resource.

He challenged them to desist from committing offences of fraud as it is a criminal offence that will endanger their job security.

Commissioner Nyambose said the commission is aware of some of the civil servants that are already committing fraud.

He said if found, they risked being prosecuted and losing their employment adding that, currently jobs are not easy to find.

Meanwhile, Katete District Commissioner (DC), Joseph Makukula appreciated the coming of the commission to the district as it was an answer to some of the challenges that the public service in the district was facing.

“We feel your coming is an answer to some of the challenges we have been facing, as you know sometimes, the bureaucracies tend to take long in responding to some of these issues. These issues are a demotivating factor to some of the civil servants in the district,” he said.

  1. The Commissioner sir,the most important thing you can do for the nation is to stop the ethnic cleansing immediately. The various deductions those retired in national interest have been exposed to are a form of tribal persecution. You are late on this one.The damage is already done

  2. This commission is never in northern province when there are a lot of issues that require the attention of the same commission

  3. Please Sir, elaborate more, will these salaries be during and after retirement? And when is a civil servant supposed to receive his/her retirement package?

  4. Just work of the retirement packages fast! And you think we are happy to be receiving peanuts every month? What can one do with the peanuts called salaries that you give to the retirees? After all you even remove other allowances, you just pay the basic salary which you also tax heavily. Be serious you and GIVE US ! Nayaa ineee

  5. Can someone explain to me. You retire and you will continue getting your salary. In South Africa you get one third of your retirement and the rest of your money remains in a government pension fund. You be paid for 5 years as long as you are alive. After 5 years your money is finished.but as long as you are alive you will receive a salary because you contributed to the fund. If you die within 5 years, the benefiary will be the remaining amount up to 5 years. Is it going to work in the same way?
