Thirty-One ZESCO power transmission line towers, between Chipata and Lundazi, Eastern province, have been vandalised.

Unknown people have removed the earthing cables to the towers, which are part of ZESCO’s project to connect Lundazi and Chama districts to the national electricity grid.

ZESCO Spokesperson, Henry Kapata confirmed the development to TV 2 news which he says has happened in the past 1 week.

Mr Kapata explained that these acts of vandalism might delay the completion of the project, whose time-frame is the beginning of the year 2020.

He was speaking in an interview in Lusaka.

Meanwhile, Mr Kapata says the water levels in reservoirs at all national power generation plants are more than what was recorded last year at the same time.

He has explained that the water levels at Kafue Gorge, Kariba Dam, Victoria Falls and Itezhi-tezhi power stations are equal to operational levels, therefore the country does not need to worry.

Mr Kapata added that ZESCO expects the water levels to be above the minimum levels by next month, going by the rains currently being experienced.

    • Kekekeke they should ask PF’s Max Chongo who complained bitterly about Zesco abandoning PF youths.

    • CAN THIEVES BE FOUND IN EASTERN PROVINCE? MR PRESIDENT, YOUR PEOPLE ARE NOT EVEN SCARED TO TOUCH HIGH VOLTAGE TRANSIMTTERS. THESE ARE PROFESSIONAL THIEVES VANDALISING ZESCO PROPERTY ITS GOOD MR LUNGU WILL BE POINTING AT BEMBAS WITH ONE ACCUSING FINGER WHEN FOUR OF HIS FINGERS POINT AT HIMSELF WITH HIS HONEST FELLOW EASTERNERS WHILE THINKING ABOUT MONEY TO FIX VANDALISED PILONS. EASTERN POWER.

    • The simplest language to speak in Zambia is bemba, but that doesn’t make everyone bemba. We are friendly people, our kindness is not weakness, but when we act ,we don’t play around. Careful

  1. it is happening in eastern province……it is normal…. let it happen in southern province , it will be treason, economic sabotage by opposition,,,,, in western it could be linyungadambo treasonous acts against the state…..Hahahahahahahahaha

  2. Yes, in Eastern it’s our Mbuyas who have infiltrated the province from the neighboring Muchinga Province.

  3. Vandalising of national assets should be condemned in the strongest possible terms, not because it is very retrogressive but it is also the corruption of national infrastructure. HH should come out in the open and condemn this negative device, he should not only selectively condemn Lungu because he(HH) wants to go to state house, but he should show that he condemns all corruption and stealing. This negative device is in all of us including HH. HH unduly benefited through the corruption in the privatisation of mines and other national assets such as hotels which he (HH) under valued and later sold to himself.

  4. EASTERNERSARE NOT THIEVES ITS THE BEMBAZ INFACT THE LINE IS SUPPOSED TO SUPPLY A BEMBA REGION
