Acting Lusaka District Commissioner Gertrude Chasaya has warned public service workers that are allegedly engaging in corrupt activities of instant dismissal if caught in the act.

The Acting Lusaka District Commissioner’s warning comes in the awake of reports alleging that some officers are charging the public for service delivery.

Mrs. Chasaya reiterated that the Lusaka District Administration will not shield any public service worker found engaging in corrupt activities and related vices from being arrested by security wings.

Mrs. Chasaya further reminded the civil servants to familiarize themselves with the General Orders and Code of Ethics so that they know what is expected of them.

“President Edgar Lungu’s administration abhors corruption and related vices in the provision of services to the public. Corruption is a serious crime, once you are found practicing it, you get arrested as well as lose your jobs with immediately”.

“If such an action keeps on taking place, then Zambia will have a lot of aliens consequently most businesses will be taken over by them and the Zambian people would become poor, ” said Mrs. Chasaya

Mrs. Chasaya said the country’s state security would be questionable if it becomes easy for any foreigners to easily own citizenship because any person can be sent to spy the country.

Apart from the issue of corruption, the DC urged the general workers to be hard working in terms of cleaning the offices as well as the work premises. She further told all the workers to be smart at all time when reporting for work so that they may look presentable.

Mr Chasaya also warned Heads of Government Departments (HoDs) and other public service workers in the district that she will not hesitate to institute disciplinary action against them for poor service delivery.

Mrs. Chasaya said her office has noted with dismay the apparent laxity by some public service workers in the execution of their duties thereby making the public to complain.

The Acting Lusaka District Commissioner sounded the warning during a General departmental meeting with some HoDs and support staff last week morning.

She further warned that reporting late for work and knocking off early from work will attract sanction.

“I have also noted that there is a lot of careless talking and disrespect for authority and this behavior should come to an end”, Mrs. Chasaya observed.

  1. Why would they face instant dismissal when big politicians are still in office for grand corruption?

    • Elyo ngataba folele ati government. Civil servants are the laziest of Zambian workers. Just how they think that their salaries are going to magically appear without providing service is beyond me. All they care about is their side hustle. Everyone has a business on the side which they pay attention to and do nothing at their government jobs and expect to be paid on time. Thieves, the whole lot.

    • If you don’t pay them salaries on time. They will resort to stealing and corruption to survive.

    • And again if you don’t pay them salaries on time, they will vote you out of government.

I guess it takes two two tango

    • @the real Olivia pope.

Idiocy is justifying and defending the indefensible.

PF top thugs and Lungu are thieves and corrupt elements themselves. Why don’t start by firing each other before victimising the little worker struggling to make ends meet because he/she gets paid after 65 days?

Zambia is now a failed state under Lungu.

    • Besides these civil servants are learning from the top PF leaders that corruption is good and a way of life.

    • “Mrs. Chasaya reiterated that the Lusaka District Administration will not shield any public service worker found engaging in corrupt activities and related vices from being arrested by security wings.”

Meanwhile one Chitotela can steal tour billion dollar govt road projects and attend court for corruption charges…you see how this undermines your statement Mrs Chasaya!!

    • @Wanzelu; you mean the kind of idiocy you are showing when you don’t want to admit that civil servants in Zambia get paid for doing nothing or the kind of idiocy you show for supporting and fielding the same presidential loser candidate 6 times?! And call yourself “Wanzelu.” Talk about Delusional!

    • How long has this woman been in Zambia? Is she from planet Pluto or what? Does she not know that the supreme law and its leader says uubomba mwi bala alya mwi bala and there is nothing she can do about it? Does she have the power to fire the humble/haughty supreme leader?

  2. The PF government is right by warning civil servants with dismissal when engaged in corrupt activities. Now someone said what about ministers. There is a very big difference; Ministers embezzle or misappropriate funds borrowed or donated from foreign countries for economic development.
But civil servant steal money raised by the government through taxes and that money is meant for salaries

    • Very shallow indeed !So ministers should be free to embezzle development funds without sanctions ?In fact this Chasaya cannot just fire civil servants instantly as she claims because there is due process to be followed.

  3. Better parameter than using the tribal gabbage as has been the trend in the recent past. But we can all guess who the victims will be

  4. When I saw the headline and coat of arms I thought it was a major policy pronouncement. Naima na pa attention namuyanu! Kupeza ala!! Ni ka DC kansi!?

  5. THAT’S A GOOD TIMELY WARNING. BUT ALLOW THE POLICE, DEC, ACC TO OPERATE WITHOUT POLITICAL INTERFERENCE. YOU CAN IMAGINE ISSUES OF OBTAINING BIRTH CERTIFICATES, NRC, DRIVERS LICENCE, VEHICLE ROAD FITNESS, PASSPORTS, PAYMENT OF TAX AT BORDERS, DUTY, CLEARING AGENTS, EMPLOYMENT, PROMOTIONS, COURT RULING, ETC……… PLEASE LOOK INTO THESE AREAS. A LOT OF INEFFICIENCIES AND PILED UP WORK FOR CORRUPTION TO THRIVE.

  6. The problem with the government is that they talk too much without doing anything about the threats. This is like telling a thief that he will be arrested and sent to jail if he steals.

The law is already there. Arrest them, try them, convict them and dismiss them and let them go to jail or do community service.

  7. The issue of corruption in Zambia is now complicated by a political leadership that is itself is corrupt to the core. This matter is now totally beyond the competence and ability of a ka simple DC. Ba Chasaya please find something else to occupy your time even though I know you have no stationary and no fuel at your offices. You may entangle yourself in something you do not fully understand and get fired after all you are just acting in that position.PF does not want to hear anybody talk about corruption.

  8. Put systems in place period. We have told to use ICT but u dont want coz of corruption. All people want to steal if systems are weak. The reasons Europeans and Americans don’t steal much it’s bcoz of systems in place.Let embrace technology and systems bane.Stop telling civil servant to stop stealing when u have failed to use systems.

  9. Is she Dickson chasaya’s wife, daughter in law or little sister? Is he still public service commission fimofimo? Abena ndanje iyi te nepotism?

  10. Im seeing two thing here Mrs Chasaya and Mr Chasaya! tabloid newspapers pet us try to be consistant when writing news items

  11. It’s important to address this single most damaging element to our economic well-being. But the words must be followed by action not just staging the desirable.

It should be a matter of national pride and patriotism to serve your country wel in civil servicel, otherwise go to the private sector.

  12. hahahaha ba Commissioner she does not even know how the law operates. you cannot fire servant civil servants simply because you are D.C. Most of these people are employed by Local government service commission or civil service commission.

  13. knocking off early from work will attract sanction. WHAT IS “KNOCKING OFF” IS IT ZAMBIAN ENGLISH. MEANWHILE IWE KA DC INFACT U ARE JUST ACTING DONT ISSUE SAME THREATS THAT WE ALL KNOW, LET U LEAD BY EXAMPLE

  14. Comment:Not only the civil servants but any one,the president included. Instance dismissal a must. Otherwise this stinks of huge hypocricy.
