Don’t kill smugglers , Copperbelt PS tells officers patrolling crossing points at Borders

Share

Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Bright Nundwe has urged security personnel in the province manning border points not to resort to instantly shooting smugglers.

Speaking when he addressed the Media in Ndola today, Mr. Nundwe said officers patrolling crossing points should resolve issues amicably and avoid taking people’s lives inaccurately.

He says the government is always disheartened whenever a life is lost in any circumstance, adding that every persons’ life is essential and that there must always be a lawful way of handling lawbreakers.

Recently, a man of Chililabombwe, on the Copperbelt, was allegedly shot on his private parts by the Zambia National Service (ZNS) officers for trying to smuggle mealie- meal into the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Kapembwa Kashimoto, 39, is currently battling for his life at Kitwe Teaching Hospital.

In another development, Mr. Nundwe has disclosed that the construction of the new Copperbelt International Airport will be completed by April next year.

He said the construction works have reached 81 percent with minor work such as the construction of a filling station, access roads and few things.

  2. These trigger-happy officers should be reprimanded and dealt with accordingly. Even law enforcers are subject to law enforcement – otherwise the situation threatens to escalate like we have recently seen happening in Nigeria.

  3. This is a voice of a concerned and responsible Civic leader. These officers should be considerate. You can not equate whatever merchandise with life
The trigger happy officer should be dealt with without favor especially if he acted on impulse

  4. This what happens when you have dullard cadres in civil service roles,,,they dont get to the root of the problem…you have army personnel patrolling you think these guys have time to resolve issues amicably when they know police are full of corrupt cadres who will simply release these people, I mean if JJ the PF cadre can walk in the Capital city’s police headquarters batter senior officers and live to tell the tale

  5. You borrow words like smuggling and conflate traditional border lifestyles with international trade posturing. Most of the criminals are large scale, using trucks and bribing officials to successfully carry out so-called smuggling. You are killing relatives of the poor between the border settlements that were created by your erstwhile politicians. Let’s be human for once in our lives. Also, satisfy the demand that causes the so-called smuggling to happen.
